bakes and loses its porosity or even sintering occurs. Rather, it is advantageous to leave a very low level of moisture in the mass, as this promotes the penetration of calcium chloride. After the conversion has taken place, the moisture is then dried out again and in this way a completely hard, resistant, permanent lining is obtained, which also withstands the effects of the extremely high temperatures used in the later metallurgical operations and does not suffer any further changes.

The amount of waterglass to be added to the basic material is expediently so much that the resulting mixture contains 2-30 / 0 silica; but it goes without saying that you are not bound to this percentage, but can change it according to the circumstances.

One can also proceed in such a way that the materials used in the production of the feed are first mixed with calcium chloride and only then the water glass is added. However, the reverse procedure is recommended because of the extraordinary lygroscopicity of the dried calcium chloride.

  PATENT APPROACH
1. A process for the production of a basic furnace lining for metallurgical purposes using a mixture of calcium chloride and water glass, characterized in that the same basic, difficult to melt materials, such as magnesium oxide or magnesium oxide, which suffer no significant volume change during hydration. magnesia, chromium oxide, chromium oxide stone u. Like. Be added.

2. An embodiment of the method according to claim 1, characterized in that the water-glass-containing mass used for the lining, which is still in the plastic state, is firstly removed from the bulk of the moisture by partial drying, then it is saturated with calcium chloride and only then completely dried .
