Österreichische PATENTSCHRIFT N 18677.
THOMAS FREDERIK WESTENHOLZ IN HELLERUP (DÄNEMARK).

Austrian PATENT LETTER N 18677.
THOMAS FREDERIK WESTENHOLZ IN HELLERUP (DENMARK).
Device for the automatic ignition and extinguishing of gas flames.
As is well known, the lighting and extinguishing of the gas lanterns is currently being carried out by workers. Most of the time, the lanterns are lit when it is dark and some of them are extinguished around midnight, while the rest of them burn until daybreak.
Because of the use of workers (lantern lighters and extinguishers), lighting and extinguishing costs quite a lot of money compared to the simplicity of this work, as each lantern district has to be passed three times a night by the lantern lighter.
Furthermore, since all lanterns should be lit at a certain hour and each lantern igniter usually has to pass a large number of lanterns and cover a considerable distance, it is necessary that the lighting begins half an hour or a full hour earlier (the opposite is when deleting the case) than it would be necessary, whereby a lot of Gns is uselessly consumed.
In order to remedy these inconveniences, the present invention aims at the automatic lighting and extinguishing at predetermined times, so that the daily lighting and extinguishing of the lanterns by workers is eliminated.
This is achieved by combining a clockwork with the gas tap

or the like. Is opened and closed.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, namely shows
Fig. 1 is a side view of the rotating device for the stalk,
Fig. 2 is a front view of the same,
3 shows a detail of the change gears,
4 shows the part of the clock mechanism which sits in front of the front plate, with the clock disks removed,
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the clockwork,
FIG. 1 shows a front view of the same with the front plate removed and FIG. 7 the same with the front plate and clock disk.
The clockwork consists of two parts, namely a movement and an ignition and extinguishing mechanism.
The movement is transmitted from the spring housing 2 to the wheel 6 through the wheels 8 and 5. The wheels 3 and 5 are mounted on the axle 4 (Fig. 5).

The hour wheels 12 and 13 carry the hour hands 15 and 14 (Fig. 7).
These hands make one revolution in 24 hours. In addition, the hour

Pin (20) is provided, which lifts the three-armed lever 28 described below, whereby the ignition and extinguishing mechanism is actuated.
When adjusting the loose disks 37 and 52 in relation to the pointers 15 and 14, it is achieved that the pins 17 and 16 lift the double lever 18 at predetermined times.
The opening and closing of the cock is done in the following way.
A toothed wheel 47, which engages with the toothed wheel 39, sits on the same axis as the wheel 19. Two other wheels 28 and 29 (Figs. 2 and 3) are keyed behind this wheel.
As can be seen from the drawing, the teeth of each of these gears are missing on a part of the periphery, in such a way that the tooth sectors are arranged diametrically opposite one another. The gear 2S meshes with one on the axis 40? seated gear 32 (Fig. 2). A double lever 33 can be attached to this axis, which by means of chains transmits the movement to a similar lever 34 in the burner 36, which is connected to the tap 35.
Of course, the movement from the axis 40 to the tap can be transmitted in various ways and the device described may only be viewed as one embodiment. It should be noted that the movement e.g. B. by crank mechanism, endless chains, rack and. Like. Can be transferred.
The gear 29, which is just behind the gear 28, meshes with a gear 30 seated on an axis. This is so wide that it can be in mesh with the gear wheel 32 at the same time. Every time the clockwork rotates the axis 42 at a time set in advance, the wheels 28 and 29 are rotated around part of the circumference. If a piece of the ring gear of the wheel 28 is opposite the wheel 32, this wheel is rotated around part of the circumference and this movement is transmitted through the levers and the chains to the tap, which is then opened.
The next time the axle 42 is actuated, the wheels 28 and 29 are rotated again by a certain distance, but then the tooth piece of the wheel 29 will have come into engagement with the wheel 30, while the wheel 32 is opposite the non-toothed part of the wheel 28. When the wheel 29 is moved, the wheel 30 is rotated and thereby the wheel 32 is given a movement in a direction opposite to the previous one and the tap is thereby also moved in the opposite direction, i. H. the same is closed.
In Fig. 3 the connection between the gear 29 and the intermediate gear 30 is shown. Of course, several intermediate gears can also be used. The burner itself can also be set up with a small pilot flame that is burning during the day, which lights when the tap is closed and when the
Tap is opened, is deleted.
A disk 31 is also attached to the wheel 19, the periphery of which has two
Incisions 21 Z is provided. The wheel 19 is in engagement with the wheels 24 and 25.
Similar notched disks are arranged on the axles of these wheels; the wheel 26 is provided with a stop pin 27.
The clock is set to the desired bell position for ignition by turning the pin 43, which is connected to the disk 37 by a bracket 48, until it is opposite the pointer 15 on the adjusting disk 37. In the same way, for deletion, adjustment is made by turning the pin 44, which is also connected to the adjusting disk 52 by a bracket 49. The minute hand and hour hand are adjusted by turning the pin 45.
If the clockwork lifts the double lever 18 (FIG. 4) at a predetermined time by the release pin 17, the three-armed lever 23 is also lifted. This triggers the other part of the movement and the spring in one with gear 19
EMI2.2
rotate part of the full turn. Immediately after passing the pin 17 respectively. 16 the lever 18 falls off. The movement of the spring housing will last until the arm 23 also falls down. This happens when the next incision in the disc 31 has come under the thumb of the lowermost of the three arms of the lever 23.
The device described above has two different setting arrangements, one of which regulates the ignition and the other regulates the extinguishing and, while all the working parts in the clockwork itself always rotate in the same direction, the cock alternately in one direction or the other by means of the gear change wheels indicated 28, 29.30 and 32 turn.
It goes without saying that the specified device can also be used for purposes other than those described without departing from the essence of the invention.
