EMI1.1

<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

EMI1.1
The present invention relates to an improvement to those electrical train lighting systems in which a dynamo driven by the wheel axle is connected in parallel with one or more collector batteries, and has as its object a device which prevents overcharging of the collector battery.
In the accompanying drawing, the circuit according to the present invention is shown in FIG. 1, while FIG. 2 illustrates the already known arrangement.
According to the similar circuit described in German Patent No. 108822, the regulator P influencing the excitation current of the dynamo consists of a solenoid with four windings 11, between two main current windings Pp, 2 and two shunt windings P3, P4 (FIG. 2). The windings PI'P2 together with the resistors s Sg are connected one behind the other in the line 11. The winding pi lies in the shunt 6 of the main line 1, 11 and furthermore comprises the winding of an electromagnet n2 belonging to a relay N.
The winding p3 is connected in friction with the winding of the relay N, the end of the winding pg is connected to the main line III, while the end of the winding fi1 is conductively connected to the armature n of the relay N; the current connection screw na is connected to the current connection piece t2 of the switch T.
When charging the collector, the switching lever T is in the current short position, while the lighting is in the open position.
The resistor R switched on in the exciter circuit 7F of the dynamo can now

into a vessel filled with mercury, which is formed from superimposed and mutually insulated metal rings po, which are connected to the individual elements of the resistor, so that a greater number of resistance elements is switched off from the line than rings po from the Mercury are wetted at the same time. Since the height of the magnetic core depends on the strength of the current flowing in the solenoid, a convenient regulation is made possible with the appropriate choice of wire strength, the number of turns and the diameter of the solenoid. In the rest position the iron core sinks completely into the vessel due to its weight.
The mercury is driven up and short-circuits the volumetric resistance. The core remains in this position when the machine is switched off. If, however, the number of revolutions of the machine increases, then the terminal voltage and thereby the current strength delivered to the main line increases and the latter reaches a certain maximum size, so the ampere turns of the main current as well as the shunt winding increase and the iron core is drawn into the solenoid , whereby the level of the mercury in the vessel drops and resistance R is switched into the excitation circuit of the dynamo.
The circuit of the relay N connected in the two shunts 6 and 7 has already been explained by what has been said above; however, the operation of the relay will be described in more detail below using FIG.
At the maximum charging voltage occurring between the main lines I, 11, a correspondingly strong current will namely go through the winding "2" of the relay N, the force of attraction on the armature M overcoming the opposing force of the spring M;
EMI1.3
As a result, the increase in the regulator resistance R weakens the excitation current through the magnet winding 01 of the dynamo A, and the terminal voltage of the dynamo drops, whereby. at the same time the charging current goes down; the regulator P now works solely as a voltage regulator and keeps the voltage within the limits of 2'4-2'2 volts for each cell, after which further charging can no longer take place.
Because the winding n1 is connected in series with the winding Pa, the winding "1" receives current, these ampere turns being those of the
Support winding Mg; therefore, the armature n cannot jump rapidly due to the reduced charging voltage.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
From what has been said it can be seen that the relay N fulfills the purpose of indirectly reducing the charging voltage when the maximum charging voltage occurs between the main lines 1, II, so that further charging of the batteries or overcharging of the same is impossible.
The present invention aims to simplify the controller P through
Reduction of the solenoid windings to a single p. The winding is influenced by the relay N, known from Vorbergellenden, which, according to the present invention, interacts with a contact device M which, when the train is at a standstill, provides contact ma-m, but causes the contact to be interrupted while the train is moving. The automatic contact device is shown in the drawing by a special one
Relay M shown.
The contact device mis-m has the particular task of influencing the relay N when the train is at a standstill in such a way that it becomes ineffective and causes the armature to snap back; During the journey, however, the mg-m contact is automatically interrupted in order to keep relay N ready for operation. Finally, v denotes a great resistance which fulfills the purpose given by the
Winding P2 on the controller P effect exerted while driving and when the dynamo delivers power to the batteries. To weaken light bulbs.
The drawing shows a circuit in which the relay N, as in the device described in the introduction, comes into operation when the charge is completed and attracts the armature M to connect the winding "1" or its resistance in parallel with the large resistance v.
The purpose of this device was to reduce the total resistance of the
To bring about a bypass branch in which the winding P2 is located, so that the regulator P acts as a voltage regulator when charging is complete.
During the journey and while charging, the voltage winding P2 thus plays a subordinate role because the current strength of this shunt circuit is low as a result of the large resistance nu and v that is switched on, so it has no effect on the
Iron core P takes place.
But when the battery has reached the maximum of its voltage, the current in becomes just strong enough to cause an attraction to the armature n; the resistance of the winding tongues n1 on the one hand and n2, v on the other hand is connected in parallel, the total resistance becomes smaller, the current strength increases in P2, influenced by the attraction of the iron core and therefore the activation of the resistor R the excitation current of the dynamo machine in such a way that it keeps the terminal voltage below the maximum permissible charging voltage, but without causing the dynamo to switch off and without overcharging, which is harmful to the batteries.
The reduction of the total resistance in the circuit of the winding P2 can of course be achieved by various switching methods, including by connecting the series resistor v in series with the winding "1 of the relay N and the winding P2, so that when the armature n of the relay N is pulled, the series resistor v or only a part of it is short-circuited The present invention is therefore not based on the circuit shown in the drawing, but on the automatic one
Device of the relay N, the contact device mg-m, the resistor v, the voltage winding P2 and the switch T to prevent overcharging of the battery.
