Wings for eccentric pistons of compressed air motors
Steel or synthetic resin has hitherto been used as the material for the blades of eccentric pistons of compressed air motors. The service life of these blades made of the materials mentioned is around 3 weeks with sufficient lubrication. After this period of time, both the housing and the blades must be replaced, as there are significant signs of wear and tear on the sliding surfaces.
In contrast, when using sintered iron blades according to the invention with a pore volume of about 30%, which is soaked with suitable lubricating oils, it was found that after 6 weeks of running time the housing still had a reflective running surface that even recognizes the original grinding marks left. Like the wings, which showed no noticeable wear, it could continue to be used.
These tests were carried out with a rotary piston engine, as described, for example, in Austrian patent specification No. 145728.
The beneficial effect of the use according to the invention of sintered iron soaked with lubricants must be attributed to the known, increased lubricating effect of this material, which occurs because the lubricant is fed from the porous interior by centrifugal force to the surfaces subject to sliding friction.
