Process for the production of disinfectants and preservatives.
The germicidal properties of metallic silver in finely divided form are known.
Such finely divided silver, however, is sensitive to the hydrogen sulphide which occurs in the air, but especially when protein bodies are broken down. The surface of the silver grain is covered with sulfur silver and thereby loses its effectiveness. It has therefore been proposed to add manganese dioxide to the silver in order to bind the hydrogen sulfide. According to this known process, solutions containing Ag ions are reacted with solutions containing manganese (II) ions, the Ag ion being reduced to metallic Ag, which
Manganese ion is oxidized to MnO2. After this
However, procedures can only be equimolar
Mixtures of Ag and Mono.
Finally, it is known that instead of starting from manganese salts, soluble silver salts can be reacted with alkali permanganate and the resultant
Permanganate with reducing agents, such as. B.
Glucose, aldehyde and the like to treat. The method according to the invention for the production of disinfectants and preservatives which contain bactericidal silver and manganese dioxide is also based on the conversion of solutions of compounds that provide silver ions, such as silver salts or complex silver compounds, with solutions of manganese compounds which form the manganese of anions, e.g. B. with an ammoniacal solution of potassium permanganate and reduction of the reaction products formed. Essentially, substances are used as reducing agents that also act as protective colloids. As such protective colloids, which are also reducing agents, z. B. dextrin solutions or solutions of gum arabic proven.
In this way, colloidal solutions are obtained which contain silver and manganese dioxide in any ratio. The reducing protective colloids first attack the permanganate ion and the somewhat more sluggishly reacting silver ion is only subsequently deposited on the manganese dioxide particles that are already present. In the preparations obtained according to the invention, the silver accordingly has a larger specific surface than in colloidal solutions made from manganese salts and silver salts with the addition of protective colloids. The colloidal solution can be brought to dryness on its own or in the presence of fillers, carriers and other large-surface substances.
Example: 100 dextrin are dissolved in 1000 cm3 of water. A solution of 50 g of silver nitrate and 100 cm3 of ammonia in 500 cm3 of water is added to this solution and a solution of 80 g of potassium permanganate in 500 cm3 of water is added. Cook for a few minutes until the solution has turned black. The solution is then dialyzed to remove the ions. The solution can be used as such or it can be brought to dryness in a vacuum and a black, colloidally soluble powder with a strong oligodynamic effect is obtained.
