Process for printing wallpaper strips.
The invention relates to a process for printing wallpaper webs and consists in particular in that the wallpaper webs using photographic templates with half and whole tones and the printing processes customary in the graphic arts industry (high pressure, flat printing, gravure printing) while maintaining the finest raster and those in these processes usual printing inks.
In order to avoid bump lines in the long wallpaper strips, pressure rollers can be used, which represent a self-contained pattern and produce the entire wallpaper strip in one cycle.
What is achieved by the invention is that wallpapers can be produced which produce completely new effects, in particular very different depth effects, so that the entire surface on which the wallpapers are applied is divided into different levels. This is mainly achieved by the fact that "halftones" can be produced on the wallpaper which could not be achieved in the previous production method of wallpapers, since up to now the wallpapers were usually produced in the form that a glue or Oil paint was applied, which was then overprinted with different colored glue or oil paints. During this production, the individual color effects had to be divided into special line and surface patterns. Plastic effects could not be achieved here.
Screening has probably already been proposed, but only glue paint or a soluble aniline dye should be used. These dyes cannot be used in the usual printing process; rather, rubbed oil and varnish inks are used in the customary printing process. In addition, it was provided in the proposed grid method to choose the grain of the grid particularly large. Even with this measure, it is not possible to achieve the desired effect in the present case. A particular advantage of the method according to the invention lies in the fact that no special wallpaper designs need to be made, but lifelike reproductions that are established by photography and made usable for wallpaper production.
Printed webs can be wound up immediately after printing without having to use the cumbersome drying process required when using glue and aniline dyes. The varnish colors used in the graphic process dry so quickly that they can be rolled up immediately after printing. These colors also have the advantage of being lightfast and waterproof and making priming and subsequent coating superfluous.
