Device for irradiating liquids with ultraviolet rays.
Apparatus for irradiating by means of ultraviolet rays are already known, but they still have some shortcomings which make them difficult to use on a broad basis.
Most of these devices are only suitable for laboratory purposes or for irradiating small amounts of liquid, e.g. B. for medical treatment, but in any case not for irradiation of such large amounts, as in dairies, breweries and the like. Like. Is necessary.
In some of these devices, the lamp is either immersed in the liquid to be irradiated or otherwise in contact with it, which leads to crust formation on the lamp or the plate covering it and thus ineffectiveness of the rays.
In those apparatuses in which the lamp is arranged in such a way that crust formation is avoided, other inconveniences arise again. If it is just an ordinary overflow, strong lamps must be used because of the short irradiation time, with which the correct dosage is difficult to maintain, but if a broader liquid level is maintained on both sides of the overflow, uniform irradiation of all liquid particles cannot be achieved again .
The present invention provides an apparatus in which all of these deficiencies have been taken into account.
In the drawing, an example embodiment is shown, u. Between FIG. 1 shows a section and FIG. 2 shows a plan view.
The inlet vessel 6, which is adapted in its outer shape to the beam cone of the lamp and provided with inlet pipe 1 at the bottom, continues at its overflow edge 4 in a slightly inclined drainage ring 5 which has outlet pipes 3 at one or more points. The reflector 7 with the lamp 2 is seated on the overflow ring 5.
The mode of operation is as follows: The liquid enters the inlet vessel 6 through the inlet pipe 1, rises in the same up to the overflow edge and then flows in a very thin veil over the overflow ring 5 to the drainage pipes 3.
The shape of the inlet vessel 6, which is adapted to the cone of rays, ensures that the rays are effective in the entire cone area. As soon as the liquid rises, the entire surface of the same is under the action of the rays and these penetrate more or less deeply in permeable liquids. After the overflow, the extremely thin liquid curtain flowing off allows further subsequent irradiation. The relatively long time during which the liquid is under the influence of the rays enables the use of a significantly weaker lamp than would otherwise have to be used in the previously known apparatus, which, on the other hand, makes it easier to maintain the correct dosage.
