Device for better utilization of liquid fuel in explosion engines.
Devices for better utilization of the vapors that form in the fuel tank of internal combustion engines have been proposed, which consist in that the fuel tank is connected to the suction line of the engine by a line in which, by externally controllable, such. B. in a motor vehicle operated by the accelerator pedal, the steam access to the engine adjustable shut-off devices are arranged. According to the older proposals, when starting the engine, steam should first be released and then the throttle valve of the carburetor should be acted upon.
In the devices of the type mentioned which have become known, the shut-off devices used to regulate the supply of the fuel mixture coming from the fuel reservoir and also the devices regulating the admission of additional air entering from the open appear mostly built into the lines as such. It was disadvantageous that these organs were designed as cone or similar acting valves, u. zw. Insofar as the valves used were pressed so tightly to their seat by the suction of the motor that z. B. depressing the accelerator pedal could only be done with a relatively large application of force and that therefore a gradual opening of the steam or. Air supply was utterly impossible.
The resistance that opposed the gradual operation of the accelerator pedal even meant that the operation of the carburetor throttle came suddenly, and this suddenness led to inconveniences. These inconveniences are prevented by the device according to the invention.
The device according to the invention consists essentially in that a chamber serving as a mixing chamber is provided in the line connecting the fuel container and the motor, in which two rotary valves are arranged, one of which allows the fuel mixture to enter the motor from the mixing chamber and the other regulates the entry of admixing air from the open air into the mixing chamber. The rotary slide valves which are attached to the end walls of the mixing chamber that form the valve seats have the advantage that they can be operated easily and therefore gradually.
An example embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawing. Fig. 1 shows a device in longitudinal section, Fig. 2 illustrates the mixing chamber provided according to Fig. 1 in side view.
The fuel vapor-air mixture coming from the fuel container (not shown) is guided through a line 1 to the bottom of a collecting container 2 and passes through a sieve 3 into a cylindrical mixing chamber 5 arranged on the cover 4 of the collecting container. In the end walls 6,6'der An axle 7 is rotatably mounted in the mixing chamber, which axle carries the shut-off element 8 (for the exit of the fuel mixture from the mixing chamber to the engine) and the shut-off element 9 (for the air inlet). The shut-off devices 8 and 9 are designed as rotary valves. The end walls 6 and 6 'form the valve seats of the rotary slide valve. The actuation of the axis 7 and thus the rotary slide valve carried by it takes place by means of a cable 10 leading to the corresponding switching element, which engages the arm 11 of the angle lever 12.
The angle lever sits on the end of the axle 7 protruding from the end wall 6 '. In order to ensure a secure fit of the two rotary slides, a compression spring 13 is provided between them, by means of which the slides are pressed against their seats. While the slide 9 is stuck on the axis 7, the slide 8 is arranged to be displaceable.
The rotary slides are brought into the closed position by a tension spring 15 acting on the arm 14 of the angle lever 12.

The mode of operation of the device shown is given below: By actuating the cable 10, the opening 16 in the slide 8 and the opening 17 in the slide 9 are made to coincide with the openings 18 and 19 provided in the end walls 6 and 6, respectively. The end wall 6 ′ is arranged to be rotatable and can be fixed in any desired position by a locking ring 20. By rotating the end wall 6 ', the beginning of the intersection of the openings 19 and 17 and thus the beginning of the entry of air from the open into the mixing chamber is set in advance according to the respective requirements. The rotatability of the end wall 6 'makes it possible to regulate the timing of the supply of the original fuel mixture and the fuel mixture enriched with fresh air to the engine.
In some cases the fresh air that is able to enter the mixing chamber through the opening 19 is not sufficient. An opening 21 is therefore provided in the housing of the mixing chamber, which opening can be blocked by a screw 22 or some other organ that can be operated by itself (FIG. 2).
The fine-meshed sieve filling the cross-section of the collecting container 2 and the non-return valve 24 arranged in the line 23 leading to the motor are provided to free the fuel from adhering liquid particles. The check valve also serves to prevent the engine explosions from passing to the mixing chamber.
