Infolgedessen
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for supplying coal dust to internal combustion engines.
In the known internal combustion engines for pulverulent fuels, the fuel, for which coal dust is primarily used, is conveyed either directly or through the intermediary of a measuring or compartment chamber from a container into a chamber upstream of the machine cylinder, in which the fuel-air mixture is ignited and out which it burns into the cylinder. In the first case, the coal dust is introduced into the antechamber either by a special flow of conveying air or by the negative pressure that is created in the machine cylinder during the suction stroke.
During the suction stroke, the cylinder or the antechamber is connected to the fuel container through the open fuel valve and the negative pressure, or more correctly the difference between the atmospheric pressure in the container and the suction tension, conveys the air-permeated coal dust into the antechamber. The respective delivery rate depends on the intensity with which the intake air flowing into the cylinder is allowed to act on the fuel supply.
The quantities of coal dust required for each operation of the machine, especially when the load is low and when the machine is idling, are known to be very small in terms of volume. If the opening through which the coal dust to be sucked in has to pass is dimensioned relatively large, this would result in an inadmissible reduction in the sensitivity of the regulation; In addition, coal dust quantities that stick together and form small lumps would get undissolved and not mixed with air through the inlet cross-section into the antechamber of the machine cylinder and could no longer burn completely within the working stroke.
If the intake cross section is small, however, there is a risk of congestion and the formation of lumps in front of this cross section, especially if the coal dust is not completely dry and not of a completely uniform grain size.
The invention relates to internal combustion engines that work with the suction of the pulverized fuel by the negative pressure of the machine cylinder, and has devices for overcoming the above-mentioned difficulties. The invention consists essentially in the fact that the air-permeated fuel is sucked out of the container through a nozzle channel which initially narrows and then widens in the direction of flow of the fuel, in order to prevent the gradual conversion of pressure into speed and vice versa, both from clumping together of coal dust particles as well as dissolve existing lumps,
in this way a good mixing of the coal dust with the metered air as well as a complete combustion and ultimately a sufficient sensitivity of the control to be achieved. In addition, the invention has improvements for the adaptation of the machine to different types of coal dust and for the supply and regulation of the intake air as an object.
In the drawing illustrating an embodiment of the invention, the small intermediate container for the coal dust, which is designed at the same time as a suction device and as a mixing chamber, and the fuel valve adjoining it are shown in section.
From a storage container not shown in the drawing, the dry, loosened and aerated coal dust is fed to a small intermediate container 2, which is preferably slightly narrowed at the bottom and closed at the top by a cover 3. A tubular body 4, which is open at the top and bottom and has a vertical axis, is inserted in a central opening of the lid, the lower end of which extends into the vicinity of the bottom 5 of the container 2. The tubular insert body 4 is closed at the top by a cap 6, the flange through
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Screws is connected to the cover 3 and thereby clamps an edge flange of the insert body 4.
This cap 6 is provided with inlet openings 7 for the additional air to be sucked in by the negative pressure in the cylinder as well as with an upwardly extending tubular extension 8.
A narrower tubular body 9 is screwed into the insert body 4 by means of a thread 11, which at the top lies tightly against the inner surface of the insert body 4 by means of a flange 10.
The tubular body 9 is closed by a base 12 and is connected to a tubular extension 1, 3 which projects downwards over this base and which, together with the base 12, forms a type of cap. The inner wall of the tubular insert body 4 is provided in the vicinity of the lower end with a step 14, above which the tubular extension 13 forms a jacket space 15 with the inner surface of the insert body 4, which is inclined with the interior of the tube 9 by several to the axis of the latter Bores 16 is in communication. The part 9 is vertically adjustable by the thread 11 in the tubular insert body 4 and is fixed by means of a small clamping tube 17 in such a way that the lower edge of the extension 13 forms an annular gap 18 with the step 14 of the pipe section 4, the width of which can thus be changed.
The bottom 5 of the container 2 is provided with a central opening 20 through which a vertical tube 21 projects into the container. This tube 21 is provided with a flange 22 which is approximately the size of the container base 5 and is connected to it by several screws 23.
A tubular nozzle part 24, preferably replaceable, is pushed onto this tube 21, the outer surface of which has initially increasing and then decreasing diameters in the direction of flow of the coal dust, for example by being designed in the manner of a double cone. This nozzle part 24 protrudes into the lower end of the tubular insert body 4 and into the cap formed by the extension 13 and the bottom 12 of the tube 9 and forms with the inner surface of the tubular insert body 4 and this cap a jacket-shaped nozzle channel 25, the annular cross-sections of up to have a decreasing and then increasing width approximately towards the middle of the height of the nozzle part 24.
At the bottom of the tube 21 or its flange 22 is a tube 27 bent at right angles, which is connected to the housing 29 of the fuel valve by means of a flange 28. The valve cone 50 is arranged on a hollow spindle 31 and cooperates with a circular closing edge: J2 of the housing. The valve body 30 is actuated by the control of the machine
EMI2.1
Bushing 35 is provided with sealing rings 36 and for perfect sealing by means of a leather or rubber sleeve. 37 connected to the valve spindle 31. At the bottom of the housing 29 of the fuel valve is the pre-chamber upstream of the cylinder of the internal combustion engine, in which the ignition of the fuel-air mixture takes place.
Since it does not form the subject of the invention, this antechamber is omitted from the drawing.
A hollow piston 40, which is closed at the bottom and ends in a mandrel 41 which protrudes into the tubular body 9, is arranged displaceably in the tubular extension 8 of the cover cap 6. In the upper end of the part 9, an annular nozzle body 42 is inserted, which with the mandrel 41 forms an annular gap 43
EMI2.2
Rod 44 with mandrel 41 and lever 45 are used for pivot pins 47 and 48.
At the beginning of the suction stroke, the valve 30 is opened in that its spindle is moved downwards by the control of the machine. The negative pressure created in the cylinder now causes the atmospheric air to be sucked in through the inlet openings 7, the annular gap 43, the interior and the inclined bores of the tubular body 9, the annular space 15, the annular gap 18 and through the suction pipe 21 opening into the valve housing 29; the path taken by the suction air is indicated by the arrows I in the drawing. At the same time, the coal dust is sucked in from the container 2 in the direction of the arrows II through the nozzle duct 2J and mixed with the intake air behind the annular gap 18.
The larger the passage cross section for the intake air formed by the throttle mandrel 41 with the annular nozzle body 42, the smaller the suction effect exerted on the coal dust. In the drawing, the throttle mandrel 41 is shown in its lower position, which it assumes when the machine is fully loaded. When the load decreases, the machine controller lifts the throttle mandrel 41 and when the machine is idling, it assumes its maximum position, in which the suction effect exerted on the coal dust is smallest.
The gradual narrowing and widening of the intake duct 25 for the coal dust (roughly in the manner of a Venturi tube) initially results in a conversion of pressure into speed and, behind the narrowest nozzle cross section, of speed into pressure. The air-permeated coal dust therefore enters the intake duct 25 at atmospheric pressure, whereupon the pressure becomes smaller up to the narrowest cross-section, while the speed of the coal dust-air mixture increases; The reverse process occurs behind the narrowest nozzle cross-section.
Consequently
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Not only are congestion and agglomeration of the coal dust kept back to form lumps, but the coal dust particles are loosened when flowing through the nozzle channel 25 and existing lumps are dissolved, to a certain extent pulled apart, so that an extraordinarily good mixing of the coal dust with the outside air is achieved.
The passage cross-section of the intake duct 25 can be extremely small at the narrowest point - with a diameter of the nozzle duct 25 of 60 mm, the width of the annular gap at the narrowest point is approximately 2 mm, which ensures a high level of sensitivity of the control.
Due to the adjustability of the tubular body 9 by means of the thread 11 and the clamping screw 17, the device can be adapted to different types of coal dust; this adjustability is used to regulate the machine. The controllability of the inlet cross section 4.3 for the intake air by means of the throttle mandrel 41 and the interchangeability of the annular nozzle body-S grant the advantages of greater sensitivity and the adaptability of the machine to different types of coal dust.
The tubular body 9 can also be used to throttle the intake air, in that it is arranged in an adjustable manner in the insert body 4 and is adjusted according to the respective power by the machine controller. In this embodiment, the intake air is throttled by changing the width of the annular gap 18. The throttle mandrel 41 is then omitted, and the tubular body 9 is given the lowest possible weight.
In the container 2, into which the coal dust is introduced through an opening in the cover 3 (arrow 111), the coal dust is kept as loosely as possible and permeated with air, for example by means of a stirring blade. For the same purpose, air inlet openings 51 can be provided in the base 5 and in the flange 22, and a porous intermediate layer 52, e.g. B. a canvas layer can be arranged. This enables air to enter through the bottom of the container 2 in the immediate vicinity of the intake duct 25 for the coal dust.
