Fig. 2 zeigt in grösserem Massstab einen Schnitt nach der Linie A, A der Fig. 1.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Process and tool for the cold pilgrimage of pipes.
It has already been proposed to cold-roll tubes on a Pilgersehritt rolling mill without intermediate annealing, the tube workpiece being gradually narrowed and stretched over a conical mandrel through two eccentric rolling sectors. The use of rolling sectors with eccentric working surfaces was also proposed, the profile of which was provided on both sides with an enlargement, the size of which gradually decreased to zero towards the end of the sector with the larger radius.
When using such rolling sectors, the workpiece material was given the opportunity to move forward in the areas of the widened sectors, whereby the pipe cross-section was given a transversely oblong shape, in that the workpiece material was detached from the mandrel in the area of the widened roll profile without, however, becoming detached changed its thickness in these places. At the beginning of the reverse gear of the rolling sectors, the workpiece was rotated around its axis by 900, so that the bulged areas were then deformed back towards the mandrel when reversing.
The purpose of this method of operation was to create a transverse bond that increases the mechanical resistance in the structure of the workpiece material, which generally consists of longitudinal fibers.
According to the present invention, the procedure is such that when the workpiece material deflects on two opposite sides of the workpiece cross-section when moving forward, the wall thickness is also considerably thickened at these points, which is rolled back into the workpiece material when the workpiece is rotated when reversing. As experience has shown, this alternating upsetting and re-rolling of the thickening produced by the upsetting improves the structure of the workpiece material even further.
It is advisable to carry out this thickening of the workpiece material on two opposite sides in such a way that the workpiece material either does not become detached from the conical mandrel at the relevant points or is detached only to a very slight extent. This can be done in such a way that the extensions of the rolled profile are dimensioned and designed in such a way that, with the existing rolling pressure, the workpiece material is forced to fill the extension completely or at least almost completely, so that there is either no cavity at all or at those points on the conical mandrel can only form a very small cavity.
It is advisable to arrange the extensions on both sides of the rolled profile in such a way that the profile of each extension is curved according to an arc that ends at the adjacent ring surface of the rolling sector at a right angle and there with the ring surface a sharp, i.e. not rounded edge forms. The lateral widenings, like the diameter of the rolled section, progressively decrease in size along the work surface, and the end of the tools has a completely circular cross-section.
In the drawing, FIG. 1 shows two rolling sectors a1 and a2 with the eccentric working surfaces b1 and b2 profiled according to the invention. The conical mandrel located between the two rolling sectors, on which the pipe is rolled, is denoted by c. The rolling sectors a1 and a2 are mounted in a carriage that goes back and forth, so that they roll out the workpiece in a reducing manner while it is stationary with the mandrel c. FIG. 2 shows, on a larger scale, a section along the line A, A of FIG. 1.
The lateral boundaries of the otherwise circular arc-shaped profiles bl, b2 of the rolling sectors have extensions which are at right angles to the annular surfaces located on both sides of the profile
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
connect and form a sharp edge there so that the two profiles P, b2 fit closely together.
The workpiece material d is forced out on the surface during the forward movement at the locations of the extensions in such a way that it completely fills these extensions without becoming detached from the mandrel at those locations. In practice, however, it would not matter if there were even a slight detachment from the mandrel. At the end of the forward gear, the workpiece is rotated around the mandrel axis by 900, as shown in FIG. 3, whereupon the protruding material is pushed back again when the rolling sectors move backwards. After the complete rolling over, the cross-section according to FIG. 4 of the drawing results. The pipe work piece does not need to be turned 90 precisely before starting the reverse gear; you can z. B. also turn around 60.
The procedure outlined here is repeated with every pilgrimage.
