Short-circuit proof direct current generator with mutual excitation.
U.S. Patent No. 138684 relates to i.a. a ,. DC generators with counter-compound excitation, in which the counter-compound effect, unlike conventional counter-compound machines, does not cause a weakening of the magnetic work force flow, but rather a change in the linkage between it and the armature winding, whereby the force flow can even increase with increasing current. In the magnetically multi-axis machine, part of the work force flow is displaced into a special magnetic path through the joint effect of a counter-compound excitation and the armature reaction with increasing current, which leads through a section of the armature circumference that is not involved in the formation of the working voltage.
The short-circuit current strength can be regulated by changing the excitation amp windings or by changing the magnetic resistance of the power flow paths. In doing so, the external characteristic of the machine, which drops in a fairly straight line from the idle point to the short-circuit point, changes its inclination. It runs when the machine is set

shift of the working current brushes of the power generator takes place. For this purpose, these are operationally adjustable. They can be brought into different positions in which the anchor reaction either supports the counter-compound effect in displacing the work force flow into the ineffective area of the armature circumference (small short-circuit current strength) or weakens it by increasing the primary force flow (large short-circuit current strength).
In this case, the characteristics of the machine will initially rise above the no-load point as the current increases, until the field-reinforcing influence of the armature reaction becomes ineffective due to the saturation of the field paths, and then decreases in an arc to the short-circuit point. The sloping part of the characteristic is therefore steeper than if it ran in a straight line from the idle point to the short-circuit point.
In machines with more than one pole pair, the described control has the further advantage that the control device (the adjustable brush holder) is common for all pole pairs of the machine and is therefore easier and simpler than if a separate control device, e.g. B. a control pole would exist and several such devices would have to be operated simultaneously.
