Process for the extraction of therapeutically effective components from essential oils.
In the German Patent No. 394796 a method for the preparation of therapeutically active ingredients from oils, balms, extracts and the like is. The like. Described, which makes use of the known property of deoxycholic and apocholic acid to form addition compounds which crystallize well with organic substances of all kinds. According to this process, the active components contained in the substances mentioned are separated out as addition products by means of deoxycholic or apocholic acid and the latter are broken down into their components if necessary.
It has now been found that you can use the same route from sulfur-containing essential oils, which have a generally extremely disgusting odor, such as. B. mustard oils, asanth oil, garlic oil, or obtained from the last two oils mentioned, according to Semmler's findings (Ar. 229
EMI1.1
connections can get. The same is done in the usual way and betw. expediently so that the components are allowed to act on one another in an alcoholic solution. Instead of the pure essential oils you can also use extracts from natural products, such as. B. Garlic. Onions, which contain the active components of the oils mentioned.
If oils are used which consist of different components, then either individual fractions of the same can be subjected to the process or the end product obtained according to the present process can be broken down into individual fractions by crystallization. Finally, as in the above-mentioned known process, the addition compounds obtained can also be broken down, so that it is possible to obtain the active constituents of the oils mentioned in pure form. The novel addition compounds are intended to be used for therapeutic purposes.
Example 1: 10 g of deoxycholic acid are dissolved in 30 cm3 of hot alcohol and the solution is mixed with 2 g of asante oil, which is obtained from Asa foetida by steam distillation. The crystals that separate out on cooling are filtered and washed with ice-cold alcohol; after drying they are odorless (F = 167-168).
EMI1.2
foetidae are in a hot solution. of 3 g of deoxyeholic acid added to 9 g of alcohol with stirring. On cooling, a compound crystallizes out in well-formed columnar crystals which, after recrystallization from alcohol, melts at 168-1700 and is completely odorless.
The intense smell of the essential oil reappears when the compound is warmed with dilute soda solution.
EMI1.3
On cooling, a compound of F = 166-169 crystallizes out, which is also odorless and can be split back into its components by heating with dilute soda solution.
