<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Hollow body made of rubber.
It is known to produce open and all-round closed inflatable rubber objects by punching out two rubber sheets placed one on top of the other in one operation according to the outline of the object to be produced and in the same operation at the edges by pressing them against each other through the cutting operation and subsequent vulcanization. It has now been found that such connections in inflatable play equipment even when the connection is indicated in Fig. 1 by the arrows Z da; provided tensile forces withstand even with excessive inflation, od when using such Spielgeiäte. The like. Leak; while with an overlapping connection (Fig. 2), which however is far more complicated and expensive, such leakage does not occur.
This suggests the assumption that the impacts occurring during use in the direction of the arrow St perpendicular to the direction of pull in the connection according to FIG. 1, together with the pulling forces, have this disadvantageous effect.
The object of the invention is now to avoid this drawback. The invention consists in the fact that the edge seam is a double seam, at least at the most heavily stressed points, of which at least the outer seam is closed to the outside over the entire edge length, so that the space between the individual seams is closed from the outside air, possibly as an inflatable closer Channel is formed.
An embodiment is expedient in which the edge seam runs through the entire circumference as a double seam, at least the outer seam being expediently closed and the space between the individual seams possibly connected to the cavity of the hollow body.
In Fig. 3 of the drawing, an embodiment of an edge seam according to the invention is illustrated schematically.
By connecting the leaves according to the invention, the connecting seams 3, which absorb the tensile forces Z, are separated from the seams 4, which experience impact forces St during use of the objects, by the channel 5 and protected against the adverse effects of these impacts, so that they are prevented from leaking and a long shelf life of the hollow objects is achieved.
The second, outer seam 4 also acts as a safety seal in the event that the inner seam 3 leaks: however, the channel 5 can also be connected to the interior of the hollow body at any point so that it is inflated with the same pressure. This further improves its cushioning effect. Nevertheless, the seam 4 is not endangered by the gas pressure, because the tensile forces Z 'due to the small diameter of the channel 5 are only very small. If the channel 5 is not inflated in order to completely relieve the seam 3 of the tensile forces Z ', the two seams 3 and 4 can come close to one another, and a very narrow double seam is obtained.
However, you will always notice a somewhat thicker area, corresponding to the channel 5, outside the inner seam 3, even if the walls of the channel are touching.
4 shows, for example, an inflatable frog, the leaves of which are connected by a double seam according to the invention running around the entire hollow body. The channel formed between these two parallel seams can be used at the same time with the interior of the hollow object with which he z. B. can be in communication at the inflation opening 6, be inflatable.
The rubber article is given a pleasing appearance by the stitching-like border 5.
To produce the connection according to the invention, for example, the section 7 shown in cross section in FIG. 5, which has a higher and a lower working bead 7 and 8, respectively
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
which are separated from one another by a groove 9. Because of the notch effect, it is always advisable to use a round or strongly rounded working bead 8 to produce the seam 3.
Instead of a tool consisting of a forged piece with a groove between the two working beads, a tool is advantageously used which consists of two round steel wires of different thicknesses running parallel to one another. If such a tool is operated by means of an eccentric punch, that is to say a punching machine with a stroke that can be precisely limited, it can be protected in such a way that it even lasts approximately as long as the expensive engraved or forged punching tools.
If the two punching beads move relatively close together, the following effect occurs: first of all, the further protruding punching bead or thicker punching wire penetrates alone into the stacked rubber plates. The material is compressed under the punching bead and partially displaced to the side. From the moment when the lower punching bead or thinner punching wire begins to press on the stacked rubber sheets, the material can no longer move sideways to this side. However, as the tools move further down, the rubber material that lies between the two punching beads is compressed and pushed up into the space between the two punching beads.
As a result, the resulting seam at this point is often thicker than the sum of the combined leaf thicknesses, and sometimes the effect also occurs that the cavity between the two seams disappears completely.
The quality of the connection can be guaranteed even more reliably by heating the tool accordingly.
It is of course also possible to produce the inner seam in a special operation.
The invention also makes it possible to produce extremely durable, warm-vulcanized, inflatable hollow bodies from rubberized materials. In these rubberized fabrics, the rubber pad on the fabric is made relatively thick, e.g. B. with a light Kotton (about 0'3 mm thick) about 0-5 to 0.6 mm thick. It is essential that the lines or double lines to be welded to one another are not dusted at all or with a dusting agent such as zinc stearate or a similar dusting agent that melts at a fairly low temperature and dissolves in the rubber compound. The sticking together in the other places, where it is not desired, is prevented by introducing any kind of scattering powder after the punching process, but before the vulcanization.
