EMI1.1
Patent No. 132410 describes a process for processing coffee, cocoa and mate, which consists in breaking up these products in an acidic or alkaline medium in the heat, with sugar being added before or after the breaking down, and fermenting the digested mixture.
The solids separated from the fermented maize marriage represent new animal feed.
In the present case, a process is specified which allows these products to be further processed by technical means in the event that for any reason their use as animal feed is to be abandoned.
The method consists in that the feed obtained by the above-mentioned method, in particular the feed coffee, dry distillation, e.g. B. in apparatus that are used for processing small wood, are subjected. Due to the extremely high lignin content of the materials, the materials are broken down roughly according to the following list:
33-35% coke from 7000-7500 cal.
EMI1.2
0'45% phenols and cresols 10% methyl alcohol
EMI1.3
The dry distillation is to be carried out with or without evacuation. The further processing and use of the distillation products takes place in the usual way.
It is already known to use organic substances such. B. pine cones, bark, cork waste, Gerberlohe, etc., to be distilled dry and also to subject wood or other vegetable products to dry distillation after heating with inorganic acids. The present invention differs from these processes in that special products, namely coffee, cocoa, mate, are used for dry distillation after they have been digested and subjected to fermentation with subsequent neutralization.
The coke produced in this distillation is an activated carbon of excellent quality, which u. a. it explains that the fermentation after digestion attacks the lignin contained in the coffee, etc., but the cell structure and thus the volume are essentially retained, so that the remaining carbon skeleton has a high degree of porosity. The salts remaining in the parts of the plant after the digestion also promote the formation of active charcoal during dry distillation. The activated carbon obtained in this way can be used as a full replacement for the previously known carbon of this type.
