Process for increasing the impact resistance of injection molding compound made from acetyl cellulose.
A process (Austrian patent specification No. 128371) for improving the cold resistance and fire resistance of plastic masses made of acetyl cellulose has already become known, which is characterized in that trialkyl phosphates whose alkyl groups are identical or different are added to the acetyl cellulose as plasticizers can.
Such plastic masses are produced in such a way that the acetyl cellulose is plasticized with solvents or swelling agents and the aliphatic phosphoric acid ester in the kneading machine, then further processed on the calender and in the press press, the known organic liquids being used as solvents or gelatinizing agents such as benzene, alcohol, acetone, ethyl acetate, etc.
The subject of the invention is the production of a synthetic material from acetyl cellulose which is particularly suitable for the so-called spraying process, characterized in that the acetyl cellulose in the presence of larger amounts of water or mixtures of water and organic solvents on the roller serves as a gelatinizing agent trialkyl phosphates whose alkyl radicals contain up to and including four carbon atoms, are added, which cause an extraordinary increase in the impact resistance of the molded pieces produced from the mass by hot pressing.
Tripropyl phosphate has proven to be a particularly suitable gelatinizing agent, which, alone or in a mixture with other trialkyl phosphates, as well as as an additive to other already known gelatinizing agents (phthalic acid esters, etc.) causes an unusually high impact resistance of the injection molding compound. But it can also be used trialkyl phosphates whose alkyl groups are different from one another, for. B. Dibutyl propyl phosphate, etc.
While the previous acetyl cellulose injection molding compounds, such as those used for. B. using dimethyl phthalate, triphenyl phosphate, triacetin u. like. are produced, Sehlagbiege-

finished injection molding compound, impact strengths that are between 70 and 90 cmg / cm2, i.e. on average about three times the impact strengths that have been achieved so far. In practice, this means a mechanical property of molded pieces which has not been achieved in any of the known newer plastics - with the exception of celluloid and cellon; this shows for example

and has only recently been increased to around 15 cmkgjcm2 using a special fibrous filling material.
For many fittings, a high impact resistance, which is synonymous with low brittleness even with small wall thicknesses, is very important. so that the present invention represents an essential technical advance, which can best be characterized by the fact that it has succeeded for the first time without using the Celluloidbzw. Cellon block process, i.e. without the detour via cut leaves and without the lengthy drying process required for this, in the shortest and easiest way to produce a substance that can be molded into objects with the same thin-walled structure as celluloid .

phosphate and 100 g tripropyl phosphate, ie a mixture of two trialkyl phosphates used.
Example 3: A mixture of 100 g of tripropyl phosphate and 150 g of dimethyl phthalate is used. Further processing as in example 1.
Example 4: 250 g of dibutylpropyl phosphate are used, that is to say a trialkyl phosphate whose alkyl groups are different from one another. Further processing as in example 1.
Example 5: Instead of rolling the mixture obtained according to Example 1, a mixture of water, methylene chloride and alcohol is added instead of water and the mass is only homogenized in the mixer, but without rolling, it is then dried and sprayed.
