EMI1.1

<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

EMI1.1
The invention relates to devices for the dry distillation of coal and carbonaceous substances, in particular devices of the type in which the distillation is first carried out in a pipe retort, where it takes place with the supply of heat from the outside or from the inside by means of hot gas and from which the hot material is directly in A lower container arrives in which the distillation continues without additional heat supply, only under the action of the heat contained in the cargo.
It is known in such devices to provide means for drawing off gases and vapors from the lower container in the vicinity of the connection between the retort and container and for discharging the gases and vapors drawn off there with those drawn off from the upper retort at its upper end. The invention aims to avoid condensation of the vapors and the accumulation of carbonaceous substances in the flue pipe of the lower container. To achieve this purpose, according to the invention, the gases and vapors are drawn off from the lower container through a channel provided in or next to the upper retort.
The drawing illustrates the device according to the invention in an exemplary embodiment, u. Zw. Fig. 1 shows the device in side view, partially in section, Fig. 2 shows the pipe retort in plan view and Fig. 3 shows the upper part of the device in a different embodiment, u. between side view, partially cut.
One of the vertical tube chambers al of the retort a serves as a channel for the extraction of the gases and vapors from the lower container b. For this purpose, a special pipe channel similar to the chambers al can be provided in the body of the upper retort, which extends next to one of the end chambers in the longitudinal direction of the retort. With a block retort according to D.R.P. No. 492507, the end chamber located on the side of the retort can be used as an exhaust duct for the gases and vapors from the lower container.
The bottom door c, through which the tubular chambers of the upper retort a can be closed, is provided opposite the chamber al serving as an exhaust duct with a hole cl for the passage of gases and vapors from the lower cooling container b, so that these gases and vapors during the Distillation of the charge in the upper retort a can withdraw through said channel. be whose top is inclined upward and outward. Through this molded piece, the gases and vapors flowing out of the channel at the top are introduced into the likewise inclined outlet connection eu of the retort cap e, through which they pass into the discharge pipe with the gases and vapors flowing out of the upper retort a.
The molded piece d does not need to be used when loading the upper retort a

which is removed after closing the cap lid e2.
An exhaust duct is thus created in a simple manner for the gases and vapors from the lower cooling container b, in which condensation and accumulation of carbonaceous substances cannot take place because of the heating of the upper retort a. Instead of being formed in the upper retort when the upper retort is poured, as shown, this discharge channel can also be formed by a special tube arranged next to the retort in the furnace.
The invention is particularly applicable to cast retorts in which a number of tubular chambers are arranged close to one another in the same casting. In the case of the D.R.P. No. 492507

The form of the block retorts described can also be used in the free, angular form of the gas discharge duct
Space can be provided at one end of the casting. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, each casting can, in a known manner, have two rows of chambers of circular cross-section offset from one another. In this case, an end chamber can serve as a gas and vapor discharge duct for the lower container in the manner described.
The latter is advantageously undivided and so large that when the bottom door of the upper retort is opened it can receive the charges from all the chambers of the same.
