Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for the production of pressed glass objects with a multicolor effect.

   It is known to use different colors layered on top of and next to one another in blown hollow glass and thereby to achieve multi-colored or merging color effects.

   The invention relates to a method for achieving the multicolor effect even with pressed glass objects. The method for producing such pressed glass objects is carried out according to the invention in such a way that several layers or types of glass masses of different colors are cut into the mold and distributed, whereupon they are set in flowing motion by the pressure of the press ram and merge more or less into one another.

   When using particularly soft masses, they get into flowing movement during pressing, whereby the most complete flow of masses is achieved, so that the border zones disappear from view and a gentle, steady or gradual color transition takes place in their place. It is also possible to combine uncolored, transparent, opaque or Jpak-colored glass types with the colored masses, so that opaque glasses can mix with transparent glasses in all color combinations at the zone boundaries, which creates a particularly attractive color effect and beautiful transitional shading. Layers of the same color can also be separated by interlayers of different colors.

   In the mold for any glass object, e.g. B. a hollow vessel, a candlestick, a vase, a glass gob of a certain color is first cut and distributed evenly. Then a second glass gob of a different color, possibly also colorless or opaque, is placed on the first glass gob, then possibly a third, etc. Now the press ram is activated, whereby the glass mass begins to flow as a whole and fills the shape completely. During the flow process, a more or less intimate mixing of the different colored types of glass occurs at the boundary zones, with the effect that, as a rule, a color boundary is no longer optically recognizable and the colors merge without interruption. The stronger and stronger the current flow during pressing, the more clearly the mentioned color effect occurs.

   Curved and modeled shapes mean that the adjacent layers of electricity in the glass mass move against each other, creating a gradual color effect.

   The pressed glass article can be finished by any known method, e.g. B. by grinding, spheres, polishing, etching, matting, painting. Special effects can also be achieved by grinding and polishing protruding points and surfaces of the pressed glass design, especially when different types of glass are used.
