retained, they are, as Fig. 3 particularly shows. lined up on a flexible metal strand k and clamped onto it so that they form an open chain, the links of which are equally spaced apart.
This mutual spacing of the individual wedges c on the strand k sunk in them is selected according to the tightening of the conical bore of the hollow cone a so that the wedges c can approach or move away from each other sufficiently, depending on whether they are deeper or less deep in the cone a are pressed in. In the process, the pieces of the strand k lying between the wedges e bend out, for which purpose space is created on the wedge edges by notches 1 according to FIG. The line up of the wedges c on the strand k is done, for. B. in such a way that the wedges c are provided on their outer surface with an undercut groove m into which the strand k is pressed.
To assemble the clamping device, take the wedge chain in the palm of your hand and, by closing your hand, place it around the line b, whereby the wedges r. immediately find their mutually correct place and together

sink into the hollow cone a without the possibility that one or the other wedge could fall to the ground. The strand k offers some of its sinking into the wedges c and, as a result of its possibility of movement within the wedge toe spaces, never hinders the jamming.
