Device for igniting electric fluorescent tubes by means of applied
High frequency current.

In the case of electric fluorescent tubes, it is known to cause ignition either by means of a voltage surge or by applied high-frequency current. The invention aims
 EMI1.1
Connected in series and placed under the action of a switch arranged in the connecting line of the two electrodes. If, with this type of circuit, the switch located between the electrodes is opened after the electrodes have been sufficiently heated, the full mains voltage is immediately applied to the glowing electrodes, which means that the ignition of the tube is extremely reliable due to the high-frequency effect.

The arrangement of the switch in the connection line of the electrodes also ensures that after ignition has been effected, the line parts of the heating circuit leading from the mains to the electrodes also serve to continue supplying mains voltage to the electrodes during the actual operation of the tube.

 EMI2.1

The latter then remains on when the switch remains open: M due to the mains voltage supplied by means of lines 4, 5 of the heating circuit, it continues to burn. The high-frequency circuit is then also switched off by opening switch 15.

Both switches are conveniently combined into one switch to facilitate the ignition process and the operation of the tube. The latter is designed in such a way that when it is opened, the high-frequency circuit remains switched on for a short moment after the heating circuit has been interrupted, in order to enable the tube to be reliably ignited. If necessary, when the common switch is closed, the high-frequency circuit can be switched on later than the heating circuit. The common switch can be automatically moved into the open position by the action of a spring or by the action of a clockwork after it has been switched on.

The glow electrodes can receive a variety of training. In a known manner, they can consist of small electron-emitting pellets or rods which are surrounded by a Heizdrahtwieklullg; But they can also consist of cylinders provided with an electron-emitting layer, inside of which a heating wire winding is accommodated.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Device for igniting electric fluorescent tubes provided with glow electrodes by means of applied high-frequency current, characterized in that the glow electrodes are connected in series in a circuit branched off from the network, which is in the connecting line of the two
Electrodes has a switch which, when the electrodes have been sufficiently preheated, is opened to apply the full mains voltage to the tube, so that the latter is then reliably ignited by high-frequency effects.
