Process for coating objects) that withstand a high temperature, such as. B. metals, graphite, electrodes or the like., With a hard, shiny metal
Graphite coating.

The invention relates to a method for coating objects that withstand a high temperature, such as. B. metals, graphite, electrodes or the like. With a hard, metal-like shiny graphite coating. Such a coating is particularly advantageous in the case of electrodes made of carbon and graphite, after tests have shown that those points of the electrodes which are provided with such a coating remain to a high degree protected against oxidation by the external atmosphere at higher temperatures. It is therefore advantageous to provide those places on the electrodes that would otherwise be eroded by oxidation at the high temperatures with such a coating.

According to the invention, the procedure is that the objects to be coated with the graphite coating are either used as an electrode themselves, since this coating is only formed at the highest temperatures, primarily at the arc attachment points, or in the area of an arc, which is known in the art Way a gaseous hydrocarbon compound feeds and burns in a practically closed space, whereby graphite attaches to the objects in question to a large extent and a coating of great hardness and metallic appearance is created.

Of the hydrocarbon compounds that can be used, ethyl and methyl alcohol or a mixture of these two compounds are particularly suitable for the process.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Process for coating objects, such as. B. metals, graphite, electrodes or the like. With a hard, metal-like shiny graphite coating, characterized in that the surfaces of the objects to be coated are in the area of an arc burning in a practically closed space, to which a hydrocarbon compound is fed in a known manner becomes. brings.
