Trockene Gleichricl1terzelle.

Dry rectifier cell.
The invention relates to a dry rectifier cell with electropositive and electronegative electrodes that are relatively far apart in the electrochemical series. The electropositive electrode expediently contains a metallic element or a metallic compound, preferably an amalgam made from the lighter metals of the second and third periodic group, and is pressed onto the electronegative electrode under a pressure that is sufficient to counteract the effect of the electrostatic effects occurring on the contact surfaces Resist repulsion. According to the invention, an electronegative electrode is used in such a rectifier which consists of or contains the former compound of brass with sulfur and selenium in a mixing ratio of one to five to six parts by weight.
A brass mixture with a relatively high zinc content, e.g. B. a mixture of 80% copper, 20% zinc.
Such a brass mass is preferably first amalgamated with mercury before it is connected with the chemical elements of the 6th group of the periodic table, since the connection is better if the brass is amalgamated beforehand. The former conversion between the brass mass and the chemical elements of the 6th group of the periodic table can take place in any suitable way. You can z. B. expose the mass in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to a temperature of 150 to 500 C.
Electronegative elements, which contain selenium or tellurium, have a particularly high degree

assembled by rectifier cells or processed further, they are preferably again heated to a relatively high level in the open air and then cooled again, since in this way gases which remain occluded in the selenides from the treatment in the reaction chamber are driven out, whereby the rectifying effect of the cell is improved becomes.
After the heat treatment, the resulting electronegative body is preferably subjected to a grinding process or other processing in order to give it a smooth surface.
It has a higher specific resistance than pure copper sulfide. If such an electrode is installed in a rectifier cell, then no coating or intermediate layer is required to produce the rectifying effect.
A metal body is selected as the electropositive electrode element, which is relatively strongly electropositive towards the elements of the 6th group in the electronegative element, since in general the rectifying effect is greater, the greater the distance between the electrodes used to produce the electropositive electrode and the electronegative electrode Substances in the electrochemical series. The chemical elements of the so-called alkaline earth group generally form suitable metallic ones

Basic materials for the manufacture of the anode element. The preferred elements are e.g. B. aluminum,
Calcium and zinc or their alloys with mercury. The amalgams can be prepared in any suitable manner for this purpose, e.g.
B. by bringing the metals to be amalgamated into a suitable solution of mercury chloride.
The disk-shaped, electropositive electrodes can be produced from sheet metal from the last-mentioned metals, the sheets being coated with mercury if the use of an alloy is desired. In order to vary the contact resistance at the contact surfaces of the electrodes independently of the electronegative element, the surface of the electropositive electrodes can also be oxidized.
If the electronegative electrode contains selenium or tellurium, then it is advisable to use magnesium or a magnesium amalgam as the material for the electropositive electrode, since this combination produces particularly good rectifying effects.
