Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Crate closure by means of a band iron and the sleeve surrounding the band iron ends.

     Band iron fasteners in which the band iron ends are surrounded by a sleeve and the sleeve and the band iron ends are simultaneously provided with ribs by a pressing tool are known. Furthermore, band iron locks have become known in which the transverse rib is rectangular
Cross section. The latter occurs in these known closures only in connection with finger-like edge crimps on the sleeve and the band iron ends.

   In contrast, the invention consists in that the ribs are placed at an angle to the longitudinal edges of the locking sleeve and the band iron ends. The effect of this is that the tension forces acting axially in the band iron ends break down into two components, one of which, extending perpendicular to the rib, is now noticeably smaller than the original force, so that the risk of the rib stretching is significantly reduced. The other force component, falling in the direction of the rib walls, seeks to move the band iron ends laterally in the sleeve until they rest against the edges of the sleeve.

   This force component then acts in two sub-components, one of which, directed perpendicular to the edge of the sleeve, is essentially expressed as a friction pressure, but is otherwise not large enough, and acts on a lever arm that is too small to be able to bend the sleeve. The other subcomponent lying parallel to the edge of the sleeve causes the iron band ends and the sleeve to wedge together. The connection according to the registration is therefore permanently fixed. In addition, the inclined position of the rib, compared to the known closures with a transverse rib running perpendicular to the sleeve edge, increases the resistance element of the connection point against the axially acting forces in a simple manner.

   In this simple way, one achieves the advantage that the sleeves are not bent open and the band iron does not slide out of the sleeves.

   The subject matter of the invention is laid down in the figures. Fig. 1 shows a view from above, Fig. 2 shows a section along the line J.-B, Figs. 3 and 4 show the sleeve and Fig. 5 shows a view from above after pressing and tension has occurred. The ligaments have moved along the rib to the edge of the sleeve. Figs. 6 and 7 show an embodiment in which wire is used.

   This closure is not only to be used for boxes, but for all types of packaging where iron or wire is used as a strapping.
