Verfahren zur Gewinnung von Wasserstoff aus ihn enthaltenden Gasgemischen.
Die Erfindung bezieht sieh auf ein Verfahren zur Gewinnung von Wasserstoff aus ihn enthaltenden Gasgemischen durch teilweise Verflüssigung, bei welchem die zur Verflüssigung der letzten Verunreinigungen erforderliche niedrige Temperatur durch die äussere Arbeit leistende Entspannung des verdichteten
Wasserstoffes erfolgt, der durch die Verflüssigung aller andern Bestandteile erhalten wird. Es handelt sich hiebei insbesondere um den Fall, in dem die Gegenwart von einer gewissen Menge eines andern Gases (z. B. Stickstoff) in dem Gewonnenen nicht störend wirkt wie etwa bei der Gewinnung von Wasserstoff für die synthetische Herstellung von Ammoniak.
Nach der Erfindung wird dem verdichteten kalten Wasserstoff, der nach der teilweisen Verflüssigung der übrigen Bestandteile des Gasgemisches zurückbleibt, ein verdichtetes, kaltes, leichter verflüssigbares
Gas zugesetzt und mit ihm entspannt ; die entstehende entspannte und daher sehr kalte Mischung von Wasserstoff und diesem Gas wird dann benutzt, um durch ihre Kälte die Verflüssigung des zu behandelnden wasserstoffhaltigen Gasgemisches herbeizuführen. Indem man einen entsprechenden Teil des leichter verflüssigbaren Gases zusetzt, verfügt man für die Verflüssigung dieses Gasgemisches über eine grössere Menge sehr kalten Gases, als wenn man Wasserstoff allein verwenden würde und daher ist die Verflüssigung bzw. die Reinigung des Gasgemisches leichter durchzuführen.
Anderseits kann das zugesetzte, nach der Entspannung teilweise verflüssigte Gas entweder für sich allein oder zusammen mit ungefrierbaren Kohlenwasserstoffen zur Schmierung der Entspannungsmaschine verwendet werden.
Wird der Wasserstoff zur synthetischen Herstellung von Ammoniak verwendet, so bedient man sich des Stickstoffes, den man, nachdem er verdichtet und abgekühlt wurde, dem Wasserstoff vor der Entspannung zusetzt.
