Thermobatterie.
Thermal battery.
The mode of operation of the device is based on the phenomenon described in electrophysics, that thermal currents are generated by heating a closed, homogeneous conductor with an asymmetrical temperature gradient. To achieve this condition, the point to be heated was previously provided with a constriction through which an asymmetrical heat distribution occurred as a result of the discontinuously reduced cross-section in the conductor. According to the invention, a thermal effect is also achieved if a wire loop according to FIGS. 1 and 2 is provided with two coats of different metals or alloys that are to be applied next to one another instead of a constriction. Such individual loops represent thermal batteries when they are joined together, which is done in a simple manner by winding a spiral.
The same are then coated with the specified metal sheaths by applying metal pastes, by electroplating or plating. The latter can either envelop only individual parts of the individual turn and leave out parts of the same or, when the entire loop is covered, touch or overlap one another. In the embodiment of an element according to FIG. 1, for example, a piece c of the turn is left free between the jackets a and b. In Fig. 2, the jackets touch on both sides, but a cylindrical cavity d is cut out at a point of contact d between the closing coatings and the wire body, which is expediently filled with insulating compound of low thermal conductivity.
The heating of the thermal battery takes place either directly by means of the Joule heat released at the recessed areas by a superimposed heating current or by any heat source outside the thermal battery. The model according to FIG. 2 is especially suitable for the latter heating option. If the battery is operated with a superimposed heating current, the circuit specified in FIG. 3 and in FIG. 4 must be used to keep the consumer circuit free from any branch currents of the heating. The arrangement according to FIG. 3 is only suitable for the use of alternating current for heating and consists of an oscillating circuit that can be tuned to resonance, between whose partial capacitances e and f the thermal battery is switched on.
The connection point of the self-induction g is chosen such that the terminals t and i of the battery have the same heating current potential. 4 shows a circuit that can be used in the same way for direct and alternating current and consists of two thermal coils & and! Connected in parallel with the same voltage sign, which are connected to the heating current network via the taps either directly via the points mund n or via a regulating resistor o in a potentiometer circuit be connected. The tapping point or the setting of the resistor o are selected in such a way that unequal heating current potentials are excluded at the terminal points p and q of the consumer circuit.
