<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Braking device for vehicles.
There are already braking devices. Known for vehicles in which the core of a solenoid connected to the brake linkage is adjusted by a pressure medium taken from a storage container during braking and by the solenoid during braking. According to the invention, the arrangement is made such that not one, but two solenoids excited by power generation on the vehicle with a pressure medium supplied by a storage container for controlling the

the pressure medium or the one solenoid or these two propellants together and is only displaced by the other solenoid during the deceleration.
The result is a simple embodiment of a braking device that can be electrically tightened as well as released and the braking effect can be supplemented by the pressure medium, as well as being conveniently and largely controllable during braking and releasing and which, due to the presence of several separately or jointly controllable drive forces the brake linkage can be easily adapted to the respective operating conditions.
EMI1.2
for example, be dimensioned in such a way that it corresponds to normal braking at low speeds, while the supplementation of the braking effect required for high speeds is achieved with the help of the core of the solenoid,
which is excited by the current of the vehicle engines working as generators. In this way the braking effect will have its maximum value at high speeds and will decrease as the speed decreases, since the strength of the current supplied by the motors decreases with the speed, and the braking

a release of the brakes can be canceled again, which is why the driver of the vehicle must remain considerably below this braking force value and thus below the maximum efficiency of the braking device.
The drawing shows the invention, for example, in several embodiments in FIGS. 1-3.
Fig. 1 illustrates the overall arrangement of the new braking device, while Figs. 2 and 3 show modified embodiments of the control device.
According to FIG. 1, the iron jacket 1, which is designed for the creation of a double magnetic flux of force, contains two solenoids 12, 13 which act on a common core 2. The core 2 can move in the cylindrical metal sleeve 3 made of non-magnetizable material.
The front end of the core 2 merges into a rod 4 which is hinged to the brake linkage, which is shown schematically in the drawing by a lever 5 carrying the brake pad 6 for the wheel 7.
The rear part of the cylinder 3 is via a line 8 with the container 9 in connection, which is a pressure medium, for. B. contains oil under gas pressure. In the line 8 an automatic valve 10 is provided, which is usually pressed down on its seat by the pressure of the pressure fluid of the container 9 and can be opened by the action of an electromagnet 11 if necessary.
The solenoid 12 is connected on the one hand to earth at 14 and on the other hand to the positive terminal of a generator driven from the vehicle. This generator
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
can be formed by the vehicle engine itself when it works as a generator. The solenoid 13 is led out to any electrical power source provided on the vehicle or to the current collector of the vehicle in the case of trams or electric trains.
The braking can on the one hand by the electromagnetic effect exerted by the solenoid 12 on the core 2 in the direction X and on the other hand by that in the same direction from the.
Pressure fluid of the container 9 on the core 2 exerted pneumatic action can be brought about.
The access of the pressure fluid to the core 2 is controlled by the stroke of the valve 10. The release of the brakes takes place after interruption of the feed flow of the solenoid 12 and when the solenoid 13 is excited, the force of which must be sufficiently large to return the core 2 to its starting position and at the same time push the hydraulic fluid that has passed into the line 8 back to the container 9 .
EMI2.1
In this circuit, the electric and pneumatic brakes work together, but you can of course reduce the strength of the electric braking if you switch a variable number of resistors into the circuit of the solenoid 12. When the vehicle is traveling at a slower speed, the braking effect will be almost exclusively due to the action of the hydraulic fluid, and this braking action can then be achieved by reducing the amount of energy in the supply circuit of the brine
EMI2.2
In the case of a train consisting of a railcar and one or more trailer cars, the new braking device can be designed in such a way that it automatically comes into effect if the coupling breaks between two cars. For this purpose, the type of opening is changed according to FIG. 2
EMI2.3
The arrangement according to FIG. 3 is based on the same principle as FIG. 2 and differs therefrom only in that the core 18 of the electromagnet 16, which usually keeps the valve 10 closed, is replaced by a counter-winding 11 of greater force that the separate electromagnet 11 corresponds to FIG. 2, can be moved in the opening direction.
