<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Safety pot with a granular filling for containers for storing flammable liquids.
The invention relates to a safety pot such as is switched on in devices for storing flammable liquids between the storage container and the line leading into the outside air, which is used to ventilate the storage container. The safety pot is known to be filled with a large number of bodies which are used to distribute and cool the flame that arises in the air duct. In particular, gravel was used as a filling for this purpose.
So that the air flow does not experience any significant hindrance when it passes through the gravel filling, the safety plug must have a significantly larger clear diameter than the pipe opening into the outside air. In order to transfer the large cross-section of the pot to the small cross-section of the air line, the pot was tapered at the top and bottom and the gravel filling was placed on a sieve bottom arranged at the transition point in the tapering part and the gravel pot was not filled up to the top either Empty spaces are created in the safety pot at the top and bottom.
The upper empty space, into which the air line leading to the outside air opens, has the disadvantage that if there is an explosive mixture in this air line and a pilot flame develops in this space, a special explosive explosion can occur, which is so strong that it is quite high Gravel packings penetrate.
According to the invention, this inconvenience is avoided in that the opening of the air line connected to the outside air has the shape of a sieve, the passage cross-section of which exceeds that of the air line, and that the filling used to distribute and cool any ignition flame that occurs is close to it The sieve mouth connects.
A pilot flame that arises in the air duct then hits the distribution and heat sink directly when it enters the safety plug, so that a good protection against penetration of the packing is ensured, while the air does not experience any congestion when it passes through the safety plug, since the overall passage cross-section of the Sieve openings of the mouth of the air line is larger than the passage cross section of the air line itself, so here, too, the large cross section of the safety plug does not merge directly into the small cross section of the air line.
The sieve-shaped mouth of the air line connected to the outside air can be advantageously designed in various ways; in particular, it is also expedient to accommodate it in a removable cover of the safety plug.
Since the distribution and cooling bodies of the safety pot should be placed as tightly as possible against the sieve mouth of the air line, adjustment devices are provided through which the filler bodies can be pressed against the sieve mouth. The end of the air line protruding into the pot can also be designed in such a way that it serves to displace and compress the filling during introduction.
As a distribution and filling body for the safety pot, metal balls are useful because they have a stronger cooling effect than z. B. gravel bodies of the same size, but the metal balls have the disadvantage that they are chemically attacked by the liquids and their vapors and therefore rust quickly and show signs of corrosion.
According to the invention, this disadvantage is avoided in that the metal balls consist either of a non-oxidizing and non-corroding metal or of a metal which is provided with a non-oxidizing and non-corroding coating of lead, chromium or the like.
Several embodiments of the safety pot according to the invention are shown in the drawing.
FIGS. 1 and 2 each show a longitudinal section through different embodiments of a safety plug, in FIG. 3 a cross section along the line A-B of FIG. 2 is shown. Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal section through another embodiment and Fig. 5 is a cross section along the line C-D of Fig. 4. In Fig. 6 a further embodiment is shown in longitudinal section and in Fig. 7 in plan. FIG. 8 shows a section through the pot lid according to the line E-F of FIG. 7. In FIG. 9 a longitudinal section of a further embodiment is shown and in FIG. 10 a cross section according to the line G-H of FIG. Fig. 11 shows an embodiment of a safety pot according to the invention and Fig. 12 shows a further embodiment of the gravel pot and its arrangement in a safety pit.
The safety pot according to FIG. 1 consists of a container 1, which tapers conically at its lower end to the cross section of the line 2 leading to the storage container. In the one above

also conically tapered container is one by means of a screw. 3 closed opening provided.
In the upper part of the container protrudes a connecting piece 6 connected to the line J leading into the open air, the mouth end 7 of which is located inside the container 1 with a sieve

screws of the screw plug 3 can be pressed together in such a way that they cling firmly to the mouth end 7 of the pipe socket protruding into the container 7 and that the formation of cavities is definitely avoided.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the mouth end 12 of the pipe socket 6 protruding into the vessel 11 filled with the bodies 10 is provided with sieve cutters 8 only on the lower half. This arrangement has the advantage that clogging of the pipe by fillers falling from above through the sieve holes is avoided. The resulting reduction in the passage cross-section is compensated for by the fact that the pipe end 12 is bent in a ring shape and is considerably lengthened (FIG. 3). The container 11 is provided with a removable cover 13, which is also equipped with a screw 3 serving to press the body 10 onto the pipe end 12.
The pipe socket 14 of the safety plug according to FIG. 4 connected to the pipeline 5 serves as a cover to close the container containing the filler bodies and is designed in such a way that the pipe channel 15 which is open to the inside of the container is spiraled and in this way approximately covers the entire cross section of the Covered container.
A strong sieve plate 16 attached to the pipe socket 14 lies against the downwardly opening, spiral-shaped channel 15 - In order to ensure that the filling bodies are securely seated against this sieve plate and to avoid the formation of cavities when the filling compound is sintered together, the lower, The sieve plate 17 carrying the packing elements is mounted on adjusting screws 18 which are passed through the container wall and with the aid of which the packing elements can be pressed against the upper sieve 16. Nuts 79 arranged on the adjusting screws 18 serve to secure the position of the adjusting screws or the sieve.

Cross section is larger than that of the air line 5.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 9 and 10, the air line 5 is connected to an annular channel 22 which is arranged in the wall of the container 21 and is guided on both sides around the interior of the container and is separated from the interior of the container containing the packing by means of a sieve cylinder 23. A screw 3 arranged in the lid of the container 21 makes it possible to compress the filler bodies filled into the interior of the container and in this way to avoid the creation of harmful hollow spaces. The formation of explosion chambers is also avoided here in that the total cross section of the annular channels 22 that are led around the container on both sides does not exceed that of the air line 5.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 11, the container 24, which tapers conically upwardly, is equipped with an internally threaded neck piece 25 into which the end 26 of the air line is screwed. An air distributor closes at the end of the air duct; ngsstutzen 27, which is provided with a conically pointed mouthpiece 28. The distribution nozzle 27 and the oral

By screwing the air line into the neck piece 2J, the position of the air distribution nozzle 27 inside the container can be changed. A lock nut 29 is used to secure the end 26 of the air line or the air distribution nozzle in its position.
By screwing in the end 26, the air distribution nozzle is pressed into the packing material so that the displaced packing material is firmly attached to the

In Fig. 12 the gravel pot 1 is provided with a lower, inclined sieve 30, at the lowest point of which an opening 31 closed with a screw connection is provided. The gravel filling rests on the inclined sieve 30 and fills the whole pot up to the filling screw connection 3. The air line 5 opens into the sieve tube 7, which protrudes into the gravel. The entire gravel pot 1 is housed in the upper part of a pit 32 filled with earth. This arrangement has the advantage that, despite the location of the gravel pot 1 in the upper part of the pit 32, this pot in the event of a fire, e.g.
B. from spilled gasoline can not be easily heated and still the renewal of the gravel content without special

great circumstances are possible, since only the upper layer of soil needs to be removed from the pit 32, whereupon the gravel can be removed from the pot and replaced by opening the screw connections 3 and 21.
In all embodiments of the safety container, the damaging cavities at the point of introduction of the air line into the container are avoided, so that explosive special deflagrations can no longer occur when a Zrindflame enters these cavities.
Both gravel and balls made of rustproof and non-corrosive metal, e.g. B. lead, find use. When using balls made of a metal that is attacked by the storage liquid and its vapors, protection can be achieved by lead-coating or chrome-plating the balls.
