Method of making pistons.
The subject of the invention is a method for the production of pistons and consists in that the jacket of the piston made of light metal is pressed in the heat into a cylindrical sleeve located in a die, made of hard metal and forming the sliding surface of the piston Inside with projections z. B. dovetail-shaped approaches is provided, so that the recessed zones between the projections of the sleeve are filled by the flow of the light metal taking place during pressing.
The drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 1 shows two half-length lines, u. between left to line 1-1 of FIG. 2 and right to line 1'-1 'of FIG. 2. FIG. 2 is a section along line 11-11 of FIG.
The piston is made of magnesium and the piston sliding surface is formed by the cylinder 3 made of hard metal, which has dovetail-shaped projections 2 on its inner surface, which serve to connect the two piston parts.
After the cylindrical sleeve 3 has been inserted into the die or mold at an appropriate temperature, the jacket of the piston made of magnesium is pressed onto the sleeve in the heat under a strong pressure, u. between the deformation from the inside to the outside in the direction of the arrows, jss, the recessed zones between the projections of the sleeve being filled by the light metal flowing during the pressing. In this embodiment, the bearing surfaces 4 of the piston pin are formed in the part made of magnesium. Arrangements should be made to allow the sliding surface metal to exert sufficient pressure on the piston as it contracts.
It should be noted that the invention is not limited to magnesium, but that magnesium can be replaced by all light metals, especially those that can adopt a fibrous structure.
