Metallelektrode.

Metal electrode.
Metal electrodes with a water-cooled cavity are used in various ways in electric arc furnaces. This shows that those exposed to the greatest warming
Corrugations occur behind the electrode tip, which reduce the cross-section of the metal electrode part. Since the metal is now much better than the water in the cold room
Electricity conducts 600 times better, for example when using copper 600 times better, the heat dissipation from the tip to the rearward parts of the electrode is more and more impaired by the reduction in the metal cross-section of the electrode due to the corrugation, the electrode tip becomes glowing and finally burns completely through, despite the most intensive water cooling.
According to the invention, this disadvantage is eliminated in that the electrode on the front
The part where the arc can scratch has the full cross-section, which is a multiple of the ring cross-section, so that the heat generated at the tip is first dissipated by the ample metal mass to the rear of the electrode and transferred there to the cooling water becomes. The success achieved is twofold.
Firstly, the heat generated at the electrode tip and caused by the arc is dissipated more quickly, so that the heat that occurs
Erosion is less; Secondly, the influence of any cracks that still occur is rather small, since they only weaken the full electrode cross-section by a very small part and therefore have almost no influence on the quality of heat conduction.
In the figure, an embodiment of the new electrode is shown on the average. This consists of a copper rod k, which is provided with a central bore b from the rear end. While the hole was previously brought up to the tip, the front end of the electrode is left solid as far as the direct thermal effects of the arc extend.
The length of the full tip is expediently a multiple of the electrode diameter.
