Beispiel l.

Dyed masses of celluloid or celluloid-like substances made of nitro- and acetyl cellulose, their solutions and processes for their production.
EMI1.1
Example l.
To 1000 parts of swollen celluloid, 1 part of green PL (G. Sehultz, Dyestuff Tables 1914, p. 4, no. 4) is added and the mass is kneaded, conveniently by means of heatable rollers, at elevated temperature. A transparent, lightfast green coloration is obtained after a short time.
Example 2.
1000 parts of swollen cellulose (acetyl cellulose) are processed together with 1 part of lithol

Coloring is obtained.
Example B.
1000 parts of celluloid or cellulose mass are processed with 1 part of indanthrene blue 2 GS (G. Schutz, color tables 1914, p. 288, no. 841) as under 1 and 2 until a transparent blue coloration is achieved.
Instead of those mentioned, numerous other azo or vat dyes or tar dyes of other classes can be used. You can also use varnishes made from organic dyes.
Milori blue (see G. Schutz, dye tables 1914, no. 968) can also be used. In all cases, colored materials are obtained which are transparent at least in thin layers.

A similar procedure can be used if, instead of litholechtorange z. B. Lithol- realscharlaeh R (G. Schutz, Dye tables 1914, no. 73) or the water-soluble azo dye from aminoazotoluene and 1-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid.
Example 5.
100 parts of celluloid putty are mechanically processed on a celluloid roller with 15 parts of the yellow azo dye made from 5-nitro-4-toluidine and acetoacetic anilide until a practically homogeneous mass is formed and a sample, when dissolved in acetone, gives a solution that can also be diluted the dye does not settle or settles only in a minor amount when standing for a long time. If this is achieved, one has a mass that is transparent at least in thin layers. The celluloid thus colored can be used as it is; it can also be dissolved in solvents for celluloid which cannot dissolve the dye, for example in a mixture

Contain dye in completely or almost colloidally dissolved form and can be used in an excellent way as leather deek colors.
Example 6.
100 parts of celluloid mass are repeatedly rolled in thin layers with 15 parts of Pulverfuchsin AB (G. Schultz, Farbstofftabellen 1914, No. 512) until a practically homogeneous mass is obtained. This mass is in 1000 parts of butanol acetate, in which the powder fuchsin is very difficult to dissolve,

can be used in the same way.
Example 7.
10 kg of lithol rubin B (G. Schutz, color tables 1914, no. 152) are stirred with 1000 liters of water and heated to the boil. Then a hot solution of about 90 ° C of 10 kg of calcium chloride (dehydrated) in 100 liters of water is added with stirring, and the resulting colored varnish is filtered, washed and dried.
15 kg of this dry colored lacquer are spin-rolled on a roller with 100 kg of celluloid putty. until a sample of it, dissolved in a suitable solvent (e.g. acetone), does not allow any or only insignificant amounts of pigment to settle. Such a resolution can be used with advantage for the production of coatings, e.g. B. on glass, metal, leather, etc., use.
Example 8.
Mix 15 parts of Terra di Siena, conveniently in finely divided form, with 78 parts of celluloid putty and roll the mixture until it is dissolved in a mixture of approximately equal parts of methylcyclohexanone and acetone and, as required, with methyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol or the like Diluents diluted, gives a solution from which the dye no longer settles.
Instead of Terra di Siena, other mineral or earth colors, e.g. B. umbraun (G. Sehultz, color tables 1914, no. 985) or titanium white, also soot, can be used. You can also use, for example, 15 parts of titanium white together with 5 parts of indanthrene blue 2 GS (G. Schutz, dye tables 1914, no. 148) or together with 15 parts of the soluble red azo dye from amidoazobenzene and ethyl-ss-naphthylamine.
