Wire reinforcement for single-core AC cables.

It is known that the steel wire armor for single-core AC cables is disadvantageous because of magnetization loss. In order to reduce the influence of a complete magnetic circuit, it has been proposed to connect wires made of non-magnetic metal between the steel wires. However, this only partially negates the effect.

It has therefore also been proposed to use wires made of non-magnetizable metal, for example bronze wires of high strength, for the armouring of single-conductor AC cables over the lead sheath, in order to withstand the magnetization losses completely. Bronze wires with a small diameter already have the very high tensile strength desired, and they are therefore in most cases able to absorb the cable tension that occurs during installation. To fill the circumference of the cable, however, one would be able to use either unnecessarily thick or unnecessarily many bronze wires.

According to the invention, the thin bronze wires are therefore provided with a lead jacket, for example on the lead press, whereby they obtain the desired thicker circumference. At the same time, this has the advantage that electrolytic effects between the bronze wires and the lead sheath are avoided, which would damage submarine cables in particular. Furthermore, the lead sheath of the bronze wires forms a cushion, by means of which the direct pressure of the hard bronze wires on the soft lead sheath of the cable is prevented.
