Incandescent lamp for series connection.
The subject of the invention is an incandescent lamp for series connection, which avoids the destructive effects of the arc occurring in the case of thread breaks inside the lamp and makes the relay otherwise necessary in such lamps superfluous. Are with a total span of z. B. 450 volts
Direct current 10 lamps connected in series and if a lamp suffers a thread break, the total voltage occurs at this point and an arc arises between the electrodes, the development of which is supported by the fact that the electrodes are still very hot from burning. They are now gradually atomized, the arc approaches the glass base, which it also vaporizes and also begins to destroy the socket until it finally extinguishes by itself.
Only now does the relay come into operation and bypass the lamp.
According to the invention, a second filament is now connected in parallel to the normal filament, which is insulated from the electrodes in the normal state of the lamp. If the arc reaches the isolated connection point, it destroys the insulation and fuses the end of the replacement wire with the electrode. It is now switched on and the arc goes out.
The drawings show an example embodiment of the subject invention, u. between
1 shows the lamp in elevation and FIG. 2 shows a detail in elevation and plan.
The lamp 1 carries the two electrodes 8 and 4 in the base 2, the ends of which are connected by the main filament 5. Some distance away is the replacement incandescent drawer 6, which is connected to the electrodes at 8 and 9 and is also supported by another support? can be worn. While the thread 6 is conductively connected to the electrode 3 at 8. it is isolated from electrode 4 at 9.
The electrode 4 is surrounded at the connection point by a thin mica insulation 11 and the thread is attached to one of the clamping plates 10, which are l? be held together. The clamping plates 12 are made of a metal with a lower melting point than the electrode. If the arc now comes to the connection point 9, it destroys the mica insulation and fuses the terminals with the electrode 4. The current now passes through the thread 6 and the arc goes out.
The filament 6 expediently has a lower resistance than the main filament 5, so that it only glows red and the damaged lamp can be noticed immediately and replaced. If a thread break occurs when the lamp is de-energized, when the lamps are switched on, the isolated connection

is. The insulation is broken through and the replacement wire 6 is switched on.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Incandescent lamp for series connection, characterized in that it has two filaments, one of which is insulated from the electrodes when the lamp is in normal operating condition and is automatically retained when the main incandescent filament breaks due to destruction of the insulation.
