Abstract
Un mecanismo de equilibrio de empuje axial para un aparato de eje giratorio tal como una bomba giratoria proporciona una compensación de empuje de autorregulación mientras evita al mismo tiempo el contacto y desgaste entre los elementos giratorios y estáticos. Un rotor fijado al eje incluye una sección-macho cilíndrica que es proximal con respecto a una sección hembra cilíndrica de un estator no giratorio pero que no se extiende dentro de esta, de manera que una separación formada entre estas varía en ancho por los desplazamientos de eje causados por empujes axiales. El fluido presurizado dentro de la sección hembra aplica una fuerza de compensación de empuje en el rotor que se ve controlada por el tamaño de la separación. La sección hembra es más grande en diámetro que la sección macho, lo que evita de ese modo cualquier contacto entre estas. El mecanismo se puede combinar con un tambor de compensación de empuje a fin de reducir el empuje a un nivel residual susceptible de regulación. El rotor y el estator pueden variarse paso a paso para proporcionar una pluralidad de separaciones y cámaras intermedias entre estos.
