Abstract
Se reducen los niveles de cantidad de trazas de mercurio no volátil en petróleo crudo poniendo en contacto el petróleo crudo con una corriente de agua que contiene al menos una variedad de azufre monoatómico soluble en agua tales como sulfuros e hidrosulfuros. El mercurio no volátil es extraído con la fase acuosa formando aguas residuales ricos en mercurio, proporcionando un petróleo crudo tratado que tiene menos del 50% del nivel de mercurio no volátil original. Las aguas residuales pueden ser desechadas o recicladas mediante inyección en un depósito. En una realización, la corriente acuosa consiste esencialmente de agua producida.
