Abstract
Una composición de recubrimiento arquitectónico autooxidable que es apropiada para aplicar a superficies en edificios y en torno a los mismos, a temperatura ambiente y con luz natural diurna, por usuarios no sofisticados sin protección respiratoria, donde una combinación de bajas concentraciones de iones metálicos(especialmente manganeso o vanadio) y por lo menos un fotoiniciador, promueven la autooxidación superficial de la composición. La composición evita la necesidad de utilizar cantidades de iones de cobalto mayores que trazas, que se dice que son cancerígenas, consiguiendo aún velocidades de autooxidación adecuadamente rápidas. Preferiblemente se evita por completo el uso de cobalto. El uso de las bajas concentraciones de los otros iones metálicos reduce la decoloración de las composiciones frecuentemente hasta niveles por debajo de los que se consiguen utilizando promotores convencionales de cobalto. También mejora el brillo. Además una modificación donde se promueve la autooxidación superficial con una combinación de un fotoiniciador y cantidades de trazas de iones de cobalto en ausencia de otros iones metálicos promotores de autooxidación superficial. Por último, un método para aplicar los recubrimientos autooxidables sobre superficies a temperatura ambiente donde se someten a luz natural diurna o a una irradiación similar de baja energía.
