Abstract

Un método de recubrimiento de fibras de polímero hidrofobico con un poli(alcohol vinílico), cuyo método involucra proporcionar fibras de polímerohidrofobico, preparar una solucion de poli(alcohol vinílico) en agua, y tratar las fibras de polímerohid rofobico con la solucion de poli(alcoholvinílico) bajo condiciones suficientes para depositar el poli(alcohol vinílico) sobre las superficies de las fibras. En algunas realizaciones, las fibrasde polímero hidrofobicos son fibras de poliolefina.Por e jemplo, las fibras de poliolefina pueden ser fibras de polipropileno o de polietileno. Elpoli(alcohol vinílico) es aquel el cual generalmente se refiere como poli(alcohol vinílico) soluble en agua caliente. Tal material es altamentehidrolizado,tiene un grado de hidrolisis de por lo menos alrededor de 98%. El peso molecular del poli(alcohol vinílico) típicamente será de por lo menos alrededor de10.000, el cual corresponde aproximadamente a un grado de polimerizacion de 200. Lapresente invencion también proporciona un método para recubrir fibras depolímero hidrofobico con un poli(alcohol vinílico). El método involucra proporcionar fibras de polímero hidrofobico, disolver el poli(alcohol vinílico) enagua a una temperaturade por lo menos alr ededor de 60*C para obtener una solucion de poli(alcohol vinílico), y tratar las fibras de polímero hidrofobicocon la solucion de poli(alcohol vinílico) bajo condiciones suficientes para depositar el poli(alcohol vinílico) sobrelas superficies de la s fibras. Lasfibras de polímero hidrofobico pueden ser fibras de poliolefina tales como fibras de polipropileno o de polietileno.
