Abstract

Una disposicion de formacion de cola (230) para almacenar un paquete de datos (246) que deriva de una celda de modo de transferencia asincrono (ATM),incluyendo al paquete un encabezamiento de interfaz interna (IIH) y la carga de informacion de una celda de ATM o un Paquete de AAL2. La disposicion de colocomprende una cola (312,320) para almacenar el paquete, así como también un procesador que ejecuta multiples funciones. Una funcion de marca de tiempo aplicauna marca de tiempo al almacenar el paquete en la cola. La funcion de marca de tiempo puede aplicar la marca de tiempo en un paquete como reemplazo de unencabezamiento de interfaz interna. Una funcion de verificacion de marca de tiempo utiliza la marca de tiempo para efectuar una determinacion para ver si lapermanencia del paquete en la cola es mayor que lo permisible. La funcion de verificacion de marca de tiempo puede efectuar la determinacion de la permanenciajunto con una lectura potencial del paquete de la cola. Como alternativa, la funcion de verificacion de la marca de tiempo puede efectuar la determinacion dela permanencia cuando es invocada por una funcion de monitoreo de la cola que monitorea un nivel de relleno de la cola (por ejemplo, cuando el nivel de rellenode una cola supera un límite mínimo). Se proporciona una funcion de descarte para descartar el paquete si la permanencia del paquete en la cola es mayor que elpermisible. La invencion también propone un método de formacion de cola para aplicacion en dichadisposicion que incluye las etapas de aplicar una marca detiempo al almacenar el paquete y usar dicha marca para verificar el paquete.
