Abstract

La presente invención proporciona un método y un aparato para controlar el consumo de la energía y el acceso a los canales telefónicos (36) en en sistematelefónico por cable (10). El sistema (10) tiene dos subsistemas para limitar la alimentacióny el acceso: uno, cuando un teléfono (40) espera para recibiruna llamada, y un segundo subsistema cuando un abonado desea establecer una llamada. El teléfono (40) usualmente está en espera para recibir una llamadatelefónica. El primer subsistemareduce el consumo de energía por medio de un transceptor (114) y para el teléfono (40) que monitorea las llamadas entrantesen forma periódica y apaga el transceptor (114) cuando no las monitorea. El segundo subsistema limita el consumo de energía del sistema, y el acceso a loscanales (36) por medio de admitir sólo la corriente de retorno y el acceso a los canales (36) cuando un canal (36) se halla disponible para el uso. Estosdos subsistemas reducen el consumo de la alimentación del sistema y regulan el acceso a los canales telefónicos (36).
