Abstract
A method of decolourizing water includes the steps of adjusting the ph of water to be decolourized to a value of between 8 and 12, introducing ozone into the water after the ph has been adjusted and removing flocculated material produced as a result of the ozone introduction. The ph of the water is adjusted by adding to the water either a basic substance selected from lime, limestone, caustic soda, soda, soda ash and sodium bicarbonate or an acidic substance such as carbon dioxide. The flocculated material is removed by filtration, flotation, settling or combinations thereof.
