Abstract

A machine for seperation of palm nuts contained

Description

This invention relates.to an apparatus for causing a separation of palm nuts from a palm cake.
Reference to a palm cake, is intended to imply a cake consisting of nuts and fibres and with the palm oil extracted therefrom. Reference to palm pulp is intended to imply the digested pulp and which is yet to be subjected to the step of extraction of oil.
It is generally known, to separate palm fruits from fresh fruit bunches, and the. fruits are then subjected to the step of digestion to produce a pulp. Such a pulp is then introduced into oil extraction systems for extraction of oil and leaving an oil cake or residue consisting of fibres and nuts. As the nuts also contain oil, so the nuts should be separated from the fibre.
The present invention .relates to such a machine for causing a separation of. the nuts from the fibre contained in the cake. Though one of the applications relates to the cake, and from which the oil has already been extracted, another application of the present machine is for causing a separation of the nut from the palm digested pulp. Hitherto, elaborate and expensive machines were employed for causing a. separation of oil from the digested pulp containing the.nuts. However, in the instance when the digested pulp is first introduced; into the machine of the present invention for causing a separation of the nut therefrom and only thereafter subj ected to the step of extraction of oil, the step of oil extraction may be carried out in ordinary oil expellers and, whereby, expensive and « elaborate oil extraction systems are no longer required.

Accordingly, a primary object of this invention is
I to propose a machine for causing a separation of the nuts contained in palm cake.
Another object of this invention is to propose a machine for causing a separation of palm nuts from the cake and which machine is comparitively simple in construction .
Yet another object of this invention is to propose a machine for causing a separation of palm nuts from the palm or digested pulp.
According to this invention there is provided a machine for causing a separation of palm nuts contained in palm cake comprising :
i ) an outer housing with a discharge outlet for discharge of the fibres; ·** ii ) an inner housing disposed within said outer housing and having a fibre outlet for discharge of the separated fibres into said ou/t.er housing;
iii) a rotatable serrated plate disposed within said inner housing for causing a separation of the fibre from the nuts;
iv) a closeable opening provided in the wall of said inner housing for discharge of the nuts;
v) said inner housing having an opening for introduction of the cake therein.

Though reference is made herein to a particular application of the present m .achine for use. the palm cake, t
it is to be understood that the scope is not restricted thereto and is intended, to include digested pulp.
In accordance with this invention, the. inner housing., is disposed in a spaced relationship within said outer housing, said inner housing disposed above and in a spaced relationship to the serrated plate such as to define said outlet for discharge of the fibres into the outer housing.
The serrated plate is mounted on a relatable shaft driven by any known suitable means, agitator blades disposed within the outer housing and held to the rotatable shaft so as to direct the fibres in said, outer housing towards the discharge outlet.
The opening has a movable gate so as to allow a discharge of the nuts from said inner housing.
In accordance with one embodiment, the serrated plate extends beyond said inner housing and into the outer housing.
Further objects and advantages, of this,,invention -will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and wherein.
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of the machine of the present invention;
Fig. 2 shows a plan view without the hopper; and Fig. 3 shows a side view of said machine.
Referring to the drawings, the machine of the present invention comprises an outer housing A having a gate Al for discharge of the fibres. An inner housing B is coaxially disposed within and in a spaced relationship to outer housing A, said inner housing B being held to outer hou.sin.g A through z* » « 4 A- V-. r'-O»*·'*' <> i > /I r 0*7 Π . A serrated plate E is mounted on a shaft F, said shaft adapted to be driven by any suitable motive means. Plate E

extends outwardly of inner housing B and through an outlet
BI for discharge of the fibres only. Outlet B is formed by disposing housing B slightly above serrated plate E. Inner housing B has a closable opening B2 for discharge of the nuts.
In operation, and upon rotation of serrated plate E, a combing effect is imparted to the cake and such as to cause a separation of the fibres from the nut. Due to the rotation of plate E, the fibres are displaced towards the wall of inner housing B and discharged through outlet BI into outer housing A. Agitator blades A2 are held to shaft F and disposed within outer housing A, such blades adapted to direct the fibres into fibre outlet Al.
A hopper G is provided with inner housing B.
