Description

DESIGN.
J. GUILDENSTINE. FONT 0F PRINTING TYPE.
No. 19,663. Patented Feb. 25, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
JULIUS GUILDENSTINE, OF ROSELLE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO DAVID XVOLFE BRUCE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,663, dated February 25, 1890.
Application filed January 4, 1390. Serial No. 335,938. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS GUILDENSTINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roselle, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, (assignor to DAVID XVOLFE BRUCE,) have invented a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying typographic impressions, forming part thereof.
Those typographic impressions are exact representations of the design, in which are comprised capital letters, punctuation-points, numerals, and the dollar and pound-sterling symbols, and its nature is fully shown therein.
The characteristic features of this design are the uniform medium light Weight of the up and down strokes and the comparatively extra-heavy weight of the upper and lower curved lines and cross-lines, and the concavity on the inner side of the latter; also the curved ball-pointed terminations of the pendant-s in the upper portions of the E, F, S, T, and Z; seen also in the lower portions of the U, E, L, S, and Z. The punctuation-points, numerals, and the dollar and poundsterling symbols are all in keeping with the capital letters, and all have been greatly condensed in order to gain grace in the proportions of an other wise slim and straggling appearance in the design.
\VhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a font of printing-types, as herein described, and shown in the accom- 5 panying typographic impressions.
JULIUS GUILDENSTINE.
