DESIGN FOR A FONT OF ORNAMENTAL TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,109, dated May 21, 1889.

Application iiled April 2B, 1889. Serial No. 308,722. Term of patent 14 years.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HERMAN IHLENBURG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and original Design for Ornamental Type, of which the following is a specication.

My design for a font of ornamental type is fully illustrated in the accompanying typographical impression.

The leading feature throughout the design of the upper-case letters is the ornamental scroll finish given to each and every letter. The letters A, H, J, K, L, T, V, W, X, Y, and Z have scrolls at their upper extreniities,while the entire upper portion of the letters O, G, P, R, T, and Z are formed of scrolls. The lower portions of the letters B, J, and U are also formed of serolls,while the letters O and Q are shaded curves, one end of the line ending in a scroll. The lower portions of the letters A,

C, H, L, M, N, Q,'R, U, X, and Z end in righthand curves, While the letters B and D end in left-hand curves. In each letter are one or more vertical light lines, some of which end in scrolls, and in others of the letters are inclined light lines, each terminating in a scroll. The lower-case letters, as Well as the numerals, are in keeping with the general design of the upper-case letters.

I claim- The design for a font of ornamental type, as described, and as shown in the annexed typographical impression.
