DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,659, dated February 24, 1880.

Application tiled January 20, 1880. Term of patent 14 years.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. JACKSON, (assigner to MAGKELLAR, SMITHs t J oRDAN,) ot' the city and county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing- Typcs, of which the following is a specification.

The nature of my design is clearly shown in 1o the accompanying typographie impression, to

which reference is made.

It consists of shaded ornamental capital letters and figures.

The up-anddown portions of the letters eon- 15 sist ot' a heavy line upon the right, shaded by a lighter line, and a light line upon the left. The face of the letters is shaded by a series of light inclined lilies.

The u'p-and-down portions of the letters B, zo D, E, F, H, I, K, L, P, R, and U are eoncaved upon the left, so that the upper and lower terminations are broader than the rest of the up-and-down portions.

The letter A is provided upon the left with a heavy triangular termination, from which proceeds a light line, and its right-hand termination at the top is inclined, as shown.

In the letters F, H, I, K, M, P, It, T, and Y the top and bottom terminations are broader 3o than the rest of the lip-andwdown portions.

The letters C, F, and Gr have angular terminations upon the upper right hand, as shown, and in the E, S, and Z both terminations are angular, and in the letter L the lower termination, and in the letter l both the upper terminations, are so designed.

In the letters M, N, V, and W the inclined portions ofthe letters have the eoneaved terminations, as shown, upon the right at the base of each letter.

The face of the letters near the lower portions is further ornamented by the heavy triangular figures, as shown.

In the numerals the character of the design is preserved, the upper portions of the l and 4 being coneaved upon the right, as shown, and in these figures also the lower portions are wider than the rest ofthe up-and-down portions.

Having now set forth my invention, what I 5o claim as new is- The design for a font of printing-types, as shown and described.
