DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,503,dated December 25, 1883.

Beit known that I, CHARLES E. HEYER, a l citizen of the United States, residing in the l city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of 1 Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing- Types, ot' which the following is aspecieation, reference being had to the accompanyi ug illustration, forming a part hereof.
The letter has the appearance of being einbossed or raised, the white tint being filled with horizontal hair-lines running parallel. Each of the capital letters, figures, points, character 8L and dollar-mark has a heavy i5 shade-line with a hair-line on the right side, while a hair-line only is shown on the left side. Each character of my design has a horizontal shading, excepting where spurs enter the top and bottom of said character. Some have four of these spurs, as shown in capitals B C D E GHKMNORSTUX Z, figures 3690; others have three, as shown in capitals A F J L P V Y, and no character, excepting the end ornament, period, comma, semicolon, colon,
25 hyphen, and apostrophe has less than one.
l Capital A has a spur entering the top extending downward, and is connected with the ceriph, which ceriph 'is `joined to the hair-line on the left side of theletter. Two spurs enter the bottom and extend upward, and are connected 3c with the horizontal ceriph at the bottom of the letter. The cross-stroke is near the bottom of the letter. The hair-line ou theleft side ofcapitals B D E F K P R and the heavy and hair line on right side and hair-line on left side of 3,5
capitals H I J L IWI N U and figure l are perpendicular until near the top and bottom of the characters, at which point they curve. The flags of letters C E F G J L S T Z and dollarmark and figures 2 3 5 6 9 and interrogation o point have an inward-bending appearance.
I claim- The design for a fontot' printing-types, consisting of capital letters, figures, points, and an ornamental end piece or scroll, as described, 45 and shown in the accompanying illustration.
