DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,332, dated June 28, 1881.

Application tiled February 24,1881. Term of patent 7 years.

To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES E. HEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illi nois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart thereof.

The character ot' the design is a mediumweight Italic letter consisting of capitals, tigures, points, and four ornamental characters.

The letter has the character of a so-called Celtic slightly-bent Italic letter, with ahairline on right side, giving it the appearance of a shaded letter, with this difference from a Celtic letter, that the ceriphs join the letter with a half-rhomboid,` as shown by the accompanying typographical impression.

The letters A, B, C, E, F, G, H, J, M, P, R, and W differ from others heretofore produced and designed, as follows: The letters A and H have a diagonal stroke connecting center line. The shape of the letter A is formed by the main stroke 1unning parallel with the other letters, the left line curving from the top downward. The flag or center-piece of the letters E and F is outof parallel with the main stroke of the letter. The letters C, G, and J have similar-shaped flags and strokes on top or bottom. The letters B, P, and R have a. small Hag in the center as a combining-line, which docs not connect with the main stroke of the letter. The letters M and W have a rhornb for a center con necting-line- The end ornalnents have the form of a half-rhomb combination of an Egyptian style. The center-piece is a donble-tripod ornament of similar style. The catch-word and is ornarnented also with scrolls, all as shown hy the accompanying typographical impression. A

The style of letters in this case resembles somewhat the style of those shown in my design application No. 26,930, tiled of an even date herewith; but in that case the letters are light and unshaded.
