DAROY PORTER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO G. S. NEWOOMB d5 CO.
Letters Patent No. 61,249, dated January 15, 1857.
IMPROVED SGISSORS SHARPENER.
@ige ,rlgemrle aterra in in time zttets ttwt ma mating am nf ilg stmt,
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, D. PORTER, of Cleveland, in the countyy of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio,'have invented certain new land useful improvements in Scissors Sharpeners; and I do hereby declare that the/following is a full and complete description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
making a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a top View.
Figure 2 is a side view.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the views.
In the drawing, A represents the stand, of the form indicated. To the arm B of the stand is screwed the Sharpener C. D represents the gauge, placed on top of the stand A, and secured in place by the thumb-screw E. On the under side, and at one end of the gauge, are two points, one of which is shown at a, iig. 2, the other one being on the opposite side of the knife or Sharpener. These points are to prevent the gauge from turning laterally, and keeping it always at the same angle, the edge of the knife C coming between the points. As the' edge of the sharpener'wears away from the point c toward the point c', the gauge, by means of the thumb-screw E and slot a', can be moved along, as indicated by the dotted lines in iig. 2, until the whole edge of the knife is worn oil. The screw 6 can then be removed, and the Sharpener turned, and another edge used in the same manner. The gauge being moved along asthe edge Wears away, the Sharpener can be turned as each edge is worn away, until the four edges are all worn off. The angular position of'the knife in relation to the gauge causes the cutting or sharpening of the scissors to lbe done with more ease and accuracy than in the ordinary way.
What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is x The adjustable knife C, arm B, and stand A, in eonbination with the gauge D, points a, and screw E,
arranged in the manner and for the purposeset forth.
DARGY PORTER.' Witnesses:
W. H. BURnIDen, FRANK ALBEN.
