NUTMEG-GRATER.
Specication of Letters Patent No. 15,325, dated July 15, 1856.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGEy BLANCHARD, of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a. new and useful Nutmeg-Grater so Constructed as to be Used as a Handle to a Corkscrew; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a metallic tube four inches and a half more or less in length, and one inch more or less in diameter with a sliding metallic grater, seven eightlis of an inch or less in diameter and three inches more or less in length, the grater to be so arranged in the tube as to stick up or down without dropping out when the tube is shaken by the hand. The tube has ahole or aperture in the side of the same also a nutmeg and spring box surrounding the aperture or hole so arranged as to admit of the sliding grater taking effect on the nutmeg when the whole structure is shaken by the hand.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct a niet-allie tube four inches and a half more or less in length, one inch more or less in diameter of tin or other suitable inetals. This is A, as will be seen in the accompanying drawings. This tube has an aperture or hole made in the side large enough for a nutmeg to pass through; the tube also has a spring and nutmeg box C, either braced or cast on the tube A, coverf' ing the aperture or hole. This box C contains nutmeg E and spring F, so arranged that when box C is held in the hand and shaken quickly the nut-meg E is grated by the sliding motion of the grater B. Grater B is constructed of tin or suitable metals to secure by Letters Patent is- The application and arrangement of the self sliding grater B in connection or inside of the hollow corkscrew handle or tube A` so that when the whole structure is shaken with one hand the nutmeg is grated by the sliding grater B.
