Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the time needed to obtain the desired result of translation by using a means which replaces the displayed synonyms and the desired words of the dictionary contents with the words contained in the corresponding translated sentence. CONSTITUTION:An input original sentence is translated and displayed on a CRT 3. When a word is designated out of the translated sentence, a translation module 5 displays the synonyms of the designated word and the dictionary contents on the CRT 3 based on a dictionary and a rule table 6. Then the designated word is replaced with its synonym and a desired word out of the dictionary contents. Thus it is possible to easily replace not only the synonyms but also the corresponding dictionary contents with corresponding translated words. In such a way, the desired result of translation is obtained in a short time.

For example, to explain in more detail using an English-Japanese machine translation system as an example, if you input the English sentence /I have a pen, /, the word "pen" has translations as shown in Table 1. However, in such a system, the analysis of the original text (syntactic analysis, semantic analysis)
selects the first word ``pen'' from the first translated words in Table 1, outputs the translated sentence ``I have a pen,'' and selects its first synonym (a, fountain pen, ballpoint pen, felt pen). CR with one of the synonyms within the range of pen)
It is configured so that the translated word "pen" in the translated text displayed on the T display device can be easily replaced.

In order to obtain the desired translation result in a short time, for example, as shown in FIG.
After the input sentence (translation original text) ``a good teacher /'' is translated, when you move the cursor to the "good" part, both "good" and its translation "6 い" are highlighted, and the word translation is displayed in this state. When you press a key, a window of translation words is displayed, and the synonyms in this window, that is, the synonyms (0th a, b, c, d) of the translation word "good" currently selected by the system, as well as the 1st and subsequent synonyms. It is an object of the present invention to provide a translation device that can easily replace the translation word ``good'' with any one of the dictionary contents.

When the source language is input from the top left, ■ dictionary lookup, ■
Morphological analysis of , syntactic analysis and parsing of ■ proceed. Machine translation can be broadly divided into two types depending on the level of analysis. One is the pivot method, which analyzes concepts that do not depend on each language (called an intermediate language) and generates a target language from there. The other method is called the transfer one-way method, in which the internal structure of the six source words is obtained by analyzing any of the following: morphological analysis of ■, syntactic analysis of ■, semantic analysis of ■, and context analysis of ■. The target language is generated after converting it to the same level structure of the target language. Here, the contents of each analysis are listed in Table 2.

Table 3 This rule expresses, for example, ``A sentence consists of a subject and a predicate.'' In the language conversion unit 53 in FIG. 4, analysis is performed according to the tree structure conversion rules as in syntax analysis, and the result is stored in the buffer D in FIG. 2 as shown in FIG. 5 (dl). In the W word generation unit 54, appropriate particles and auxiliary verbs are added, the form is changed into Japanese, and it is put into the buffer E in FIG. 2 like el in FIG. 5 (this is a translation module).
