Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve operational efficiency for an internal combustion engine which uses gasoline containing alcohol as fuel by controlling fuel injection quantity while under open loop control on the basis of a specific difference or ratio between a basic fuel injection quantity and an actual injection quantity which has been obtained under closed control. CONSTITUTION:In such an engine as air, flow of which is controlled by a throttle valve 4 and fuel injected from an electromagnetic fuel injection valve 14 are burned in the combustion chamber, an electronic control unit 15 under closed loop control corrects a calculated basic injection quantity on the basis of output from respective sensors 18 through 20 in accordance with output from an air-fuel ratio sensor 24 to control the fuel injection valve 14 by the corrected output. During this procedure, the electronic control unit 15 stores a specific difference or ratio between the basic injection quantity mentioned above and an actual injection quantity corrected in accordance with output from the air-fuel ratio sensor 24 for the purpose of obtaining an actual injection quantity while under open loop control by correcting a basic injection quantity on the basis of such difference or ratio.
