PURPOSE:To improve the torque and the fuel consumption of an internal combustion engine by compensating the ignition timing in accordance with the control of air-fuel ratio for controlling the ignition timing always properly. CONSTITUTION:The number of revolutions of an engine N and the amount of sucked air Q on the basis of outputs of a distributor 5 and an air flow sensor 3 are inputted into a CPU61 for computing a fundamental fuel injection time. Then, whether a throttle valve is fully opend or not is decided, and when the throttle valve is fully opened, the above said time is multiplied by the compensating coefficient of the increased portion of power for outputting a required fuel injection pulse. Meanwhile, when the throttle valve is not fully opened, the decision of ''rich'' or ''lean'' is obtained on the basis of the output of an exhaust gas sensor 9, and a fixed A/F compensating coefficient is computed in accordance with the resultant decision. Subsequently, a lag between the above-said A/F compensating coefficient and a reference A/F compensating coefficient is obtained, and in accordance with the lag, a control signal to control the ignition timing is outputted for controlling the operation of an ignition coil 8.
