PURPOSE:To sufficiently suppress the production of inverting phenomenon even for VTR for home use which requires high density recording, by maximizing the delay time at a frequency corresponding to the black level of FM signals of a VTR. CONSTITUTION:An FM signal transmission line of the recording system of a video signal is provided with a phase shift circuit 11 in which almost maximum delay time can be given to the FM signal at the frequency of the FM signal corresponding near the black level of the video signal. For example, a video signal eW inputted from an input terminal 1 becomes an FM modulated signal eW1' through a preemphasis circuit 2 and an FM modulator 3 and is inputted to the phase shift circuit 11. The output signal voltage eW2 flows a signal current iW to a recording head 102 via a recording amplifier 4 and it is recorded on a magnetic tape 102. At playback, a signal voltage eR1 is reproduced at a playback head 103 to obtain a playback signal eR via a playback amplifier 5, limiter circuit 6, phase compensation circuit 12, FM demodulator 7 and de-emphasis circuit 8.
